Unable to install Sonar Mp3 Encoder.exe

Hi, I am trying to install the Sonar x1 Mp3 encoder free utility that comes with it, but each time I get an error message(in win 7) that says: Your shared utilities forlder was not found, please reinstall sonar x1. Now in the /program file/ there is no folder, this is true so I created one without mistaking the capital letters nor the spaces. In the /Program filex86/ the Shared Utilities forlder is there. What else could it be? How to change the access path of the installer? Thank you, Ben

There is a Cakewalk MP3 encoder activation for each x86 and x64 versions of SONAR. Since you have a shared Utilities folder in the X86 directory, I reckon you installed SONAR the 32bit version. Did you install SONAR the 64bit version, too?

Usually, there is no need to try to install the Cakewalk MP3 Encoder separately from the installation of SONAR itself. When you install SONAR, the MP3 Encoder is available for a limited time as a trial.  You just open SONAR and go to File/Export and choose to export a project in MP3 format (at that time, the Cakewalk MP3 Encoder dialog will eventually pop up.)

After the limited trial period has expired (I think it's a 30 day trial), when you try to encode a file into .mp3 format, you will be prompted that you need to pay for the mp3 encoder activation. If you choose to make that purchase, you go to the Cakewalk store and make the purchase for the appropriate MP3 activation, and when you get the email for the MP3 Activation file, you download it and double-click on it to activate the Cakewalk MP3 Encoder. Again, remember that, in the past, there has been a separate MP3 Activation for the 32bit version of SONAR and the 64bit version of SONAR. And usually, a user would have to contact Cakewalk and let them know that they are using SONAR x64, and Cakewalk will send an email for the download link to the X64 version of the MP3 Activation file. Once you buy the MP3 Activation for Cakewalk, the download is usually for the 32bit version of SONAR.

    I hope this helps.

Hhi Thomas and thank you for your help, Yes I have only installed sonar 64 bit only, but also, the mp3 activation .exe is called "unlimitedmp3-activation.exe", so by it's name it means this is not a trial, or could I be wrong? Thank you, Ben

The MP3 Activation file for SONAR x64 is called "MP3_Activation_x64"

And the Cakewalk MP3 Encoder is installed when SONAR is installed. There is no .exe to use to install the mp3 encoder.

Where did you get this file called "unlimitedmp3-activation.exe?"

Did you buy the MP3 Activation from the Cakewalk store?

The MP3 activation file that I purchased for Sonar 8.3 on XP (32 bits) a couple of years ago was called... "Mp3Activation.exe". Not really pertinent to this conversation, but I just couldn't help myself. And it's still available through my store account. I use Sound Forge for mp3 encoding (Fraunhofer codec), but the "Lame" codec is also pretty good, so I think I'll contact customer support to see if I can get my hands on the 64 bit version.
