SONAR might be running. You could look for SONAR in the Windows process list and kill it or reboot. Then try the update again.

Well, it was running but killing it did not make a difference. I also just tried uninstalling and reinstalling. No dice.

Does that mean you also rebooted the PC?

I rebooted the machine a few times in the last few days that I've been dealing with this problem. And now, in response to your reply, I've rebooted again but it didn't help. It still dies as it's trying to register files. Specifically Stretch.ax

Are there any pending windows updates? If so, allow the machine to update.

Yes, and I'm running it as administrator. But I've also tried running the downloaded file separately, as administrator. Same result.

I assume you are using the latest version of the Command Center. I doubt it will make a different but when you attempted to reinstall SONAR was it a clean reinstall? IOW, did you use these instructions https://www.cakewalk.com/...n-Install-Instructions?

Yes it's the latest. When I first tried to run the Command it told me that the version I had was unsupported and it made me upgrade. I did not try a clean install. The link you posted 404s on me.

promidi The mfc120.dll file is part of The Visual C++ Re-distributable Packages install run-time
Maybe try downloading and reinstalling that. This can be obtained from here. (I know you're running Windows 10 64bit, but try it any way)

That appears to have been the problem. Possibly that DLL had become corrupted. Thank you very much!
