'Unable to write file - disk may be full'

The disk isn't full by a long way.

I get the message when Autosave kicks in, when I try to Save manually or Save As.

This message sometimes goes away and I'm able to save the file, but usually I have to save the audio using the Consolidate Audio Folder option, otherwise I'd lose my work.

Saving that way only saves the audio, I lose any changes to tracks and MIDI data.

Does anyone know what the cause/solution is?

Thanks - rev

Win 7 x64, 8 core 3.33, 12 gig RAM, Sonar 8.5.2

    What version of Sonar?

Are you using external USB drives?

    Revnice,

It is possible that you have much space where you save your projects, but the disk or partition where Sonar does it's scratch work, may be running short.

If this were the case, you might need to change some Sonar settings.

Unfortunately, that "disk full" message is actually a generic disk error message that means SONAR was unable to open the target file for writing. Although it could be because the disk is full (or nearly full), it can also indicate some other disk-related problem. It would be nice if SONAR reported the actual error code.

What might cause SONAR to be unable to open a file? Many things. Data corruption, insufficient access rights, file in use by another program or SONAR instance, disk quota exceeded, hardware failure, read-only flags on a file, too many files open, broken link to a network drive or external drive, backup or virus scan in progress, a virus, broken links in the directory structure, disk spun down, intermittent disk cable, overheated drive or power supply, memory exhaustion, stack overflow -- any of which might be reported by SONAR as "disk may be full".

I'd start with a reboot to clear the air, then look to see if you've got some antivirus program active. It would be a good idea to run a disk diagnostic to see if your drive is healthy.

All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to.

Try deleting your picture cache files.

That. Delete your picture cache. 9 out of 10 ten times that's what it is.

I had the same issue. I traced the source of the problem to a drum .wav I imported. Don't know exactly why, but removing it from my session solved 'disk full' errors.
