Underneath This Blue Sky

This is a tune I wrote back in April of 2016. This remix has a different arrangement and line changes that the original published version does not. Among the various changes, The tune now begins with the sound of time going down the drain. Let it all stand still underneath this blue sky.
Enjoy!
It's FreeEarCandy.

I really like your music. Not only the lyrics and melody but all the other things going on in the background that are all so well orchestrated. The vocal harmonizing sounds really nice too. Great job.

That intro was just a little trippy...

Cool song.  A bit Floyd-ish, maybe a bit Porcupine Tree...  I likes.  Really nice arrangement.

Cool tune.  Definitely heard some Pink Floyd in there.  I like the vocal arrangement very much.

    Hey Stevec!

Yeah, I like the "trippy" intro too, but Floyd-ish? Nah! This one is unquestionably Floyd-ish!

I did all of the instrumentation and let a internet friend have a go at the sound. It's posted at his page on Icomp. Let me know what you think. I will tell you right up front that I think the sound quality is too compressed because there is a size limit at Icomp. It is a 13 + min song and the size limit is something like 20 mb.

    Hey Dave!

Thanks for the nice comment Dave, especially the PF comparative. Word smith-ing and the arrangements are painstakingly slow for me, so I really appreciate that you took notice of them. That complement is hard earned for me.
Now here is some real Floyd-ish stuff I did back in the day when doing covers was my preoccupation.

    Thanks Dave.

Ouch that intro, a few too many high frequencies that need taming a touch as it is off the chart

That aside I did like the psychedelic feel to this track and, as has been commented already, has the touch of Pink Floyd to it. Good Stuff

    Hello biodiode!

Sound quality is my Achilles heal. The problem is I don't really have a good grasp of all that's involved. I have been reading a few article on gain staging and RMS, but can't really be sure I'm understanding the logic and basic approach. Many of the article assume the reader is not a complete neophyte with regards to terms and equipment. I am utterly dependent upon peak meters and keeping my recording input signals balanced. The picture provided looks like a spectrum analysis plugin, though the one I believe I have in Sonar Platinum/producer doesn't look anything like the one you are showing. I'll have to look at mine again to see. If interested, I could sure use a mentor to help me along. However, you would have to suffer through my uneducated questions and misunderstandings. A call to charitable duty or a warning siren to run for you sanity!

Regardless, I truly thank you for bring the problem to my attention and I guarantee it will be something of concern to me in all my future projects. As much as I like all the kind words addressing the positive, your comment was the kindest of all.

    Thanks !

    Dean.

No problem Dean. The plugin you see in the screen shot is Voxengo Span, which is a free download. It is well worth using as it gives you a feel for how your track is going to sound. I am no expert by any means on mixing and still learning myself but always happy to help any fellow musician.

Although a different genre to what you are writing the Dimensional Mixing tutorial on Dance Music Production website is a sound investment. I learnt tonnes from it even though I compose ambient chill music. It covers the use of aux channels, parrellel compression and gaining space in the mix.
