Undo per track / undo filter function / selective or smart undo

Hi, I have some thoughts on Sonar'S UNDO functionality:

i have more than once come to a situation in which I wished that 'undo' would not just undo chronologically but could be filtered in some way. One example:
Insert eq on track 1, insert eq on track 2, insert compressor on track 1, insert compressor on track 2.
Then I want to undo only the eq on track 2 but I can't undo that without also losing the compressors inserted on track 1 & 2 afterwards.
(Sure in this example you can just click and delete the EQ in track 2. But what about moving/nudging clips, tweaking fx, and all other complicated stuff I might not be able to replicate)

So I'd like to go to some kind of UNDO-FILTER and select "changes made to: track 2".
Now undo history lists chronologically:
- Insert EQ
- Insert Compressor

Go one step back and all that was done on track 1 remains untouched.

One could think this through even more:
How about being able to select single items from the undo-history with all other steps taken afterwards just remain untouched.

As it is now, after clicking to a previous point in the undo history all steps taken after are deleted automatically.
What if I want to go forwards again?
Couldn't there be an option to (de)select this behaviour?

There could be multiple filter criteria........filter by tracks, filter by groove-clips, transients, anything really.
What would make sense???

I guess there will be some complications arising as well, when certain steps taken depend on other steps taken and so on.
Still I think there is huge potential for an INTELLIGENT UNDO.

Are there any known workarounds or other workflows people adopt?
Like to hear your opinions.
Cheers, Mat

I'm not sure a general non-chronological Undo will ever be possible. OTOH, multiple Undos pegged to different aspects of workflow/program operation (in addition to the global Undo) would be very useful.

Most definitely yes!!!  This is a cool idea and could be a great enhancement if e.g. you could filter UNDO actions by track, bus, VST, FX type (e.g. undo all inserts of some tape sim FX, undo disable of all gloss EQ, ...). Might be complex to introduce, but that can be sorted out by proper design.

It may have to be customizable to be able shrink down on the number of steps it needs to remember. I would probably not enable it for most VST changes, but for some it would be great.
