Unfathomable problem with re-installation of Sonar 8.5 Studio

Ive just re-installed Sonar 8.5 Studio in my new 'improved' computer. I uninstalled it in the old one first. The latest updates have been installed also. Everything fine, but when I insert soft synths they respond for about 5 seconds and then stop for a few seconds, then stutter again, and eventually freeze. Even the controls on their front panels stop responding.

This happens for Sonar's own soft synths and all my KOMPLETE ones which I've re-installed. The KOMPLETE ones are fine working on their own, but suffer the same problems when accessed through Sonar.

The audio interface and drivers are all ok, they work outside Sonar. This is a quad core Athlon 3GHz, 4GB ram...basically a lot more powerful than my previous computer which had no problems.

I think I've set up the audio options ok - ASIO, latency ..etc

Has anyone had a problem like this before? Is it a case of re-installing Sonar or something else?

I should add that this freezing happens on any audio effects I insert also. Their front panel controls don't respond after about 10 seconds.

Sounds of the soft synths are fine. It records perfectly, but the front panel is not responding after about 5-10 seconds. Therefore I can't change sounds...etc

Computer specs : Quad core AMD Athlon X4 640 3.01 GHz; 4 GB KINGSTON DDR3Ram (1333MHz Memory Module). Windows XP Home (SP3): Motherboard Asus M4A78LT-M: 1TB SEAGATE SATA2 300 Hard Drive with 32 MB Cache

    Soundcard : Cakewalk UA 1G

******   Opening any plug ins results in the front panel controllers (of plug in) responding to mouse for about 5 seconds then they stop. If I close the plug in and re-open it the same thing happens again. Sounds or FX are fine, no latency problems

Just to be clear, this is a different physical machine, right?

If not - and you're using the same hard drive and O.S. - did you do a complete uninstall of Sonar?  (Really, the only way to be sure the old installation is going to cause problems):
