Uninstalling Old Versions

I was looking at my installed programs folder tonight and noted that I currently have Home studio 6, Sonar 7 Studio, Sonar 7 Producer, and Sonar x3 Producer although oddly enough I don't see Sonar Platinum anywhere. Which, if any, of these can I safely uninstall to free up some disk space without compromising my SPlat installation?

Thanks, Rob

Well, you may be using some VSTS\DXi's from some of those. I still have X1,X2, & X3 installed with plat. They do NOT take up much space so I just leave them.

It really can be a bit 'hit and miss' to uninstall previous version of Sonar. In theory you can do this, but there is always the chance that a file will be deleted that is required for a particular VST or instrument in the current SPLAT installation. Particularly if you have older projects that were started in those previous installed versions.
You can always do a reinstall of SPLAT, if you later find something is missing that you require, just make sure it wasn't part of a previous Sonar version.
I'm of the opinion that if you can find something else to delete, to give you that space, then leave your older versions there, just to be on the safe side.

There's a few threads here in this last week with this same topic. And there's a list on one of them with all the stuff that came with each version. You can use that to figure out which versions you need. I found everything I needed by installing a bare bones of 8.5.

As said unless you have a real small C drive it's not worth the bother.

Also if you used CCC to install Splat then it would seem it does not show in the program list. Some say it does, some say it doesn't. For me it is not there. You uninstall using CCC.

Hey, everyone, thanks for the feedback. I do, indeed, have an only moderate sized c: drive, and this computer is used for everything I do - Office, video editing, IPod podcast syncing, etc. My samples and project files are all on a secondary drive, however.

Before going to the trouble, here is a post I made about X3 disk usage. It may help estimate how much space removing Cakewalk DAWs recovers and where space may be recovered before removing the software.
