Unwanted delay/echo with sound on windows7
HELPPPPPPPPPPP pleaseeeeeee xxxxx I have bought a new laptop on windows7. I had no problems on vista but since installing my sonar LE and G track mic on my new laptop I cannot playback or record anything without hearing an echo ( a split second after). Not sure what to do?! I have an HP Pavillion g series if it helps? I get this echo even when sonar isnt open?! Thankyou Sandy xx

I have bought a new laptop with windows 7 and am trying to use my usb condensor mic (g track), which has a built in mixer. I have sucessfully used it on vista before without any lag, but do not seem to be able to use it on windows 7?! My mic allows me to be able to hear the sound as it leaves the mic without the need to run through the soundcard which puts a slight delay on the sound?! Anyone know how to sort this out please?

Welcome to the forum. Did you go to the microphone manufacturers wbsite and see if they have updated Win 7 drivers for the device? Is the operating system on your new computer 32-bit or 64-bit? Is the operating system on the old computer 32-bit or 64-bit? Is your version of SONAR LE compatible with Win 7 (32- or 64-bit)? Did you go to Cakewalk's web site and download any updates and patches for SONAR LE for Win 7?

Trying to narrow this down a bit: you say you're getting a little echo on both recording AND playback? During recording I could understand that there might be two monitoring points going (one from the USB mic's mixer and one from Sonar). But not sure why you'd also get that during playback. Meanwhile, you could try turning Input Monitoring on or off to see if that helps or hurts; it's the button on the track that sort of looks like a series of parentheses.

Hi jhughs thanx for replying to me xx Sorry if i didnt make myself clear :/ If i connect my mic into my laptop i get a slight echo hearing what i have said, and it gets really confusing to sing into as i can hear what i have said/sung as normal but then i hear it again virtually straight away which is very off putting, making me lose my timing. I dont however get a delay on playback, whether playing music or playing back something i have tried to record. Also the echo is there regardless of whether sonar is open which makes me think it is something to do with windows 7 64bit as i used vista 32bit before and never had a problem with it. (I'll try to give u an example of the echo... before i bought my g track i had a samson co1u, which if i used headphones on my computer i could hear an echo so used to sing 'blind' and listen to my reocrding after or it would 'throw' my timing off). Maybe i have confused things a bit more? lol. Incase its info you would need to help me my laptop is an HP Pavillion g series. Thanks again xx Sandy xx

Did you turn off Input Echo? You can also go to Options>Audio in SONAR and reduce the latency by moving the latency slider to the fast side. Moving it too far can result in pops, clicks or audio drop out, so try to find a setting that doen't have too much delay and doesn't produce too much noise. While you're there, see what Driver Mode you're using.

NOW i am more confused that ever!!!!!!!! Earlier on today i turned my laptop on and plugged my mic in and guess what...NO ECHO! I had assumed it had fixed itself, so i recorded a new song and and then went to work. BUT... when i got home i decided to check out whether my mic was still echo free and all seemed ok for a few minutes, but... then the echo decided to return!!! and stayed!!!. I haven't changed or altered absolutely anything so dont know why it worked earlier but doesnt now? Input echo is off in sonar and i have adjusted the latency in audio options in sonar but the echo remains?! How do i see what driver mode i'm using please? I am looking in drivers while im in sonar audio options but im not sure what im looking for to see what mode im using Do you reckon it could be something to do with my sound options? and that the computer is making a choice and not using the mixer in the mic, resulting in a delay for me hearing the sound/echoing (as i know the g track is supposed to eliminate that)? Perhaps that last question makes absolutely no sense, i don't know?, lol but i AM definately LOST! lol xxxx

Actually that statement might make sense ("Do you reckon it could be something to do with my sound options? and that the computer is making a choice and not using the mixer in the mic, resulting in a delay for me hearing the sound/echoing (as i know the g track is supposed to eliminate that)? Perhaps that last question makes absolutely no sense"). Go to Options>Audio and see what is selected for Playback and Record Timing Masters (or Devices). Then check the Drivers tab that only the G mic is selected for both in and out. Deselect anything else there, like the stock sound card. The Driver Mode should be in Options>Audio, too. It will read 'Driver Mode'.

Three drivers! Well, glad it's working. Now go forth and make music.
