[Update] Always and Forever (An original song)
** begin update 3/3/2016 ** Ok, I have some vocals now thanks to Daryl, but I need some listens and opinions. Do the vocals sit too far back in the mix? Very little was done to the raw tracks except for a little compression, eq and a little reverb (echo on harmony track). https://soundcloud.com/metaphasic/always-forever
** end update 3/3/2016 ** This is an original song I wrote back in 1987, when I was only 18. I wrote it shortly after getting a Roland D-50 synth. I was forced to sell that synth later due to money issues, so I stuck with guitar ever since. Over the past few years, I've had a real problem with my arthritis. The way in which I have to twist and bend my wrists to play the guitar is now quite painful, so I recently decided to put it aside, in favor of the keyboard. I wasn't sure how well I'd do considering the limited amount of time I had played a synth, but I took the plunge and bought a brand new Roland Jupiter-50 synth. As it turns out, I am able to much better translate what I hear in my head into reality, not to mention much kinder on my wrists. The following is a two-piece song which begins with a prelude called "Always", followed by the main piece called "Forever". There are lyrics and melody to it, however, no vocalists were available to record. Maybe one day, I will release it again with vocals. For now, this is the best I can do. Unlike former pieces which included keyboard parts, these were all played by hand, except the MIDI-driven drum machine. Please tell me what you think of the piece and whether or not I made the right decision in moving to keyboards. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kKzSPp6kDd8

That's really nice. Plenty of singers on this board, maybe someone could help you out with a collab?

Very nice... a pleasant listen for sure. I liked that repeated portamento-ish line - simple but effective. Worked nicely with the violin melody part over top.

Yep, I agree, nice piece indeed, would have been big in the '80's but oh well. I did find myself hoping for an interesting bridge or something. I think you've done very well in the mix, seems polished. I'd agree on adding a vocal or a lead part, it would bring it along even further. cheers, -Tom

The vocal could do with being little more forward, overall though nice track, the mix works here, thanks for sharing.

Like what? Maybe 2db? Just a ballpark as I've never mastered vocals before. Well not seriously anyway.
