Update WinXP Service pack offline?

I have WinXP sp2 on a machine that has never been on the net.

I need to update to sp3 to use some new software.

Is there a practical way to do it?

thanks,
mike

There's usually a full download available for IT type people on the sp3 download page.

If I recall, you can download it from the MS web site to a flash drive and run it that way. I have upgraded to SP2 in that manner. My OS came as a bare bones XP and I needed SP2 for functionality on the MB. Some features needed SP2 to operate properly. I have SP3 on a disk  if I ever need it.

Although my new DAW is "totally offline" it does have a fully functional NIC in it and I will connect to the net if I need to update or authorize some software. I have also used the thumb drive for both functions as well. As soon as I finish, I pull the net cable.

Unless a specific upgrade to SP3 is required, I would not bother. I have actually shut off the auto-upgrade feature in the new DAW.  I look at it this way... it's working, so why try to "fix" it?

Download it from MS...pop the thumb drive in the off line box, and double click the package. It should extract and install from the thumb drive.

Thanks I found the link at Microsoft download center.

Now, I have to ask... considering that I have a tweaked for performance SP2 setup... should I be aware that some aspect of the settings will revert to a more general purpose selection. Is there any thing I should watch for?

    Thanks,
    mike

FWIW, my update from SP2 to SP3 went flawlessly without having to change/tweak anything afterwards.

    Thanks for the info!

BTW do you use firewire with your Ultralite? The win firewire .sys files are one thing I was concerned might get updated.

    best regards,
    mike

Yes I do (especially since that's all my UltraLite supports, I bought it about 3 months before the hybrid came out).

Never had an issue in WinXP with my firewire (my card has a TI chip) and when I set up a dual-boot with Win7-64 (which I haven't migrated to yet), Jim Roseberry suggested I use legacy mode for the firewire card driver in Win7-64 which I did and absolutely no issues with that either.
