Updated again... - Jattao feat. Legion: Get Up Now

A dancehall-oriented song by Jattao featuring Legion on the second verse. Hope you'll like it and if not please tell me what could be done better I'm unsure if it migh be a little on the harsh/sharp side... The song contains some explicit lyrics.

Yeah there's a lot of punch in this mix.

I'd like to hear Jattao a bit more prominently and the percussion in the higher frequencies (snare, hats, cymbals etc) sound a little over cooked and mashed up here but maybe thats what you meant by harsh/sharp so you are already on it.

But apart from those niggles I really enjoyed this.

    Good job

Thanks a lot for the input. I've updated the song now and think I've dealt with the little problems now. What do you think?

Input from others would be appreciated as well

This mix actually sounds smooth on my pc speakers. Good song, arranged well with quality vox.

First time I've heard your stuff - nice groove.

A mighty and resounding "oh, yes, brother!" to that.

Kit is tasty crisp without burnt edges, a driving mix. Quite nice, liked your part as well, very nice counterbalance/offset to her highs. Enjoyed listening. Extremely danceable, speaking to the core of community music.

I found that the previous mix translated kinda badly on some systems where the vocals almost got lost (also with for example myspace'c crappy mp3-encoding) so worked on it a little bit more. Hope it translates well to every system now. If you have some critique, ideas or anything feel free to comment.

The song is on the Insurrectional Entertainment soundclick page:

    Jattao; Legion

    Nice work indeed

I didn't hear the previous versions but I've followed others advice and cranked this up through my hi-fi and the mix/production sounds perfect.

    Enjoyed this a lot

Wow!!! Very professional sounding on my system. I didn't hear the prior versions, but this one sounds great. The two vocals work very well together. Well done.

Great mix! Sounds well balanced on my monitors.. yeah, she can sing... Not the stuff I normally listen to, but it is well produced and sounds good.

    Ya,

It sounded cool from the off but the extra emphasis on the vox has really lifted it.

I can't make out what she's singing still but that's true of pretty much anything on the radio anyways. A lyric sheet would be cool though.

    Cute ending btw...

First time I've heard this, so I can't comment on the improvements. This production is first rate. Vocals come through really well and the beat slams. Great job.

Jonbouy: Thanks for taking your time to comment the last mix. Ha ha, I actually mixed the vox louder at first and then accidently watched MTV and found that everybode else mixed them way softer (tried to keep 'em somewhere in between...). The ending is pretty cute I agree, thought it was a nice contrast to the rest of the song to catch the listeners attention one last time

    Dcumpian: Thanks a lot.

I have been a fan of Jattao since you introduced her here a while ago. This song is no different. Love it.

Did not hear the first mix, but this one sounds great, though a bit fatter bottom end would be welcome.

I do wish I could produce music like this. While I want to produce this kind of music, it seems elevator "musac" tripe is all I am capable of yet. But with tunes like this to inspire me, maybe one day I will be able to do this too.

    Well done.

Foxwolfen: Thanks a lot for the comment. With more bottom end would you suggest for example raising the kick or bass alternatively some multiband compression on the full mix or EQ? I have in fact lowered the bass freq's some from my original mix after comparing to commercial mixes and after listeningn to my test speakers (I don't have a car to play the tracks in so I use a couple of really crappy PC desktop-speakers without any bass and an intensly booooomy and bassy, so called, mini hifi-system as reference speakers when finished in the studio and if the mix sound good on both and my mp3-player I'm normally happy for a day or two until I find some little tweak I can do ). I agree that the power of the track is increased with some more bass though so maybe I should sweep the lows on the masterbus in premastering to see if I can find a sweet-spot.

I would also like to say that from what I've heard from you it don't sound musak at all and point out that I sometimes dream of being able to produce music like your Sinbad-songs (for example) so maybe we can learn from, and inspire, each other. If urban music seem musac when listening to it try to raise the kick by at least 3db and snare by 6db. Contrary to the belief that music is subjective and that there are no "one size fits all" settings that always work, this actually does

More Jattao is probably coming pretty soon, we have some new tracks cooking as i type.
