And you do realize this is the X1 forum right? It's safe to say most people here own and use X1 so naturally getting an extra tool that works well with X1 is beneficial. Especially at that price.

Beepster I think the points these guys are trying make are a) It sounds as good as high end 3rd party plugins b) It's right on the strip so you don't have to goof around loading stuff or toggling views c) it has a much lower footprint than comparable EQ's/Compressors/etc so you don't have to be chincy with it trying to avoid maxing out your resources d) it's wicked cheap and comes with a pantload of extra goodies. maybe they are. sounds like a workflow thing if that's the case. I don't mind working with the stuff I've already paid for if that is the only major benefit.

But that isn't really the only benefit. It doesn't matter. You have stuff that works for you and that's all that matters. You should take a look at the videos of PC in action though. It might help satisfy your curiosity a little better than I can.

Especially at that price. I totally recognize and respect that in fact its a big part of why I come here to ask. Its one of the few places where I hear generally good responses about Cakewalk products at all. I was just hoping to find someone with experience with both to give me a run down on the contrasts between the two but I am not sure that the people doing so have honestly used both or have had both and cheer pro channel because it is what they do have. I am looking for someone who has given an honest assessment to each and can give an honest assessment to each tools benefits and flaws. I just don't think there are many here who have compared the two enough to do that based on the replies I am getting otherwise someone I am sure would have chimed in and said "this is what's wrong with T-Racks" kind of thing that I am not seeing but rather a defense towards Pro Channel which I have yet to say a single bad thing about.

I have been for months they only lead me to think that it is about the same as using a 3rd party plug that I already have just embedded. I honestly want to be wrong about it but I'd like to see more comparisons to PC vs other tools otherwise its kind of bad advise to tell someone PC is the best reason to buy X1 Producer because the person saying so may not know what is on the other person's computer. I like to buy tools that fill holes or potential holes in my production rig. That is hard when there are no real visable holes

Xabition, Beepster has done a darn good job of summing up in a rather neat package what I've been trying to say all along. Try to think of PC as like an SSL desk with all the SSL modules installed on the channel strips. Its not that SSL makes them or that they fit nicely in the desk but rather its the sound one gets from such a desk. CW has done the seemingly impossible in creating a similar idea in its X1 producer product without killing us with price or costing CPU overages. The quality is fantastic and can not be read about but needs to be heard. You want transparent quality sound its there. You want a touch of color its there. You want a saturated sound its there. You want a smooth sound its there. All at your fingertips. Its all there. But it all sounds musical and darn good. Click on the links in my post with the links and play the videos. Read the details on how each module is designed. How each can be used. See for yourself if what I have been saying is true or not. However the true proof is in the using. I don't blame you for being skeptical. I was too when I first got X1. I was slow to put it to use too. When I did I found I couldn't break it. I could not believe it could sound that good without a huge CPU load. But it did. It has only gotten better. I have no stock in CW. I am not a rep of CW. I am a user just like you. What I am touting I truly believe in. BTW I read your post in answer to one I mind. You explained yourself very well and I thank you for trying to be open minded on this. One thing I know for sure if you do get X1 Produce you will find your use of all those third party plugins being used less and less.

I think quite a few people here have said they have access to both 3rd party stuff as well as PC and are still saying it is quite a good tool to have. Maybe next time you're at the local music shop see if they'll let you check it out for yourself. You can't really describe things like that in text. I personally have not gotten to really mess with it too much yet but I'm gonna guess it's pretty rockin' by not only what people say here but many outside articles as well. It's part of the reason I bought the Suite to begin with.

I have learned that you can learn a lot from descriptions though if u ask the right questions

And again ProChannel isn't the only reason one might want to upgrade to Producer. I don't know specifically what's included in the lesser packages though because just said "Frak it! Gimme the big box!" I don't think I'd be able to exhaust the possibilities of the Suite if I lived ten lifetimes... but I sure as hell am gonna try.

I have read every one of those links and watched all of the videos a few times over the past few months. I just don't think they do very well with comparisons they tell u what it is has and does but doesn't really say this is the advantage for someone who may have a plug for everything already. It could be a just me thing though. When I buy tools I try my best to make sure that the tool I buy is not overlapping with something else I already have. It seems what makes the PC so great for you is that its all right there no need to go and find a plug in from a list or spending money on other stuff because its all there. For me I like having options. Example i plan to buy Saturn by Fab Filter. Its a great sounding distortion. I haven't yet but its a plan I like having the option of picking and choosing what I want even if I don't always choose to use that option I guess.

xabiton FastBikerBoy IMHO the PC alone makes it worth the upgrade. Most of the modules are fantastic (I'm excluding the original tube saturator from that) and coupled with the workflow convenience of having the UI follow track selection makes them my first choice. (I also have a lot of the T-racks stuff amongst others) Don't let the bargain basement prices of the PC modules fool you into thinking that's any indication of their quality. Add in the other "extras" and I'd be wondering why I hadn't upgraded already nevermind wondering whether to. how do these PC modules compare to the T Racks stuff. Nobody has answered that. Are they just different tones? Different workflows maybe? I don't think the PC stuff is bad. I just think it may be similar based on everything I have read about them. For me its a matter of why upgrade to this if I have it in some other form. What makes the Pro channel stuff better or worse than T Racks since you have both. I would say sound wise they are on about par. Different, but I wouldn't say one is better than the other in the sound dept. - That of course is subjective. The only reason that the PC is my first choice is from the point of view of the enhanced workflow. I've only ever claimed that whenever I sing the praises of the PC. Of course if it sounded rubbish I wouldn't be quite so keen to use it but it doesn't. Having to double click on a VST to open it's interface and then have several of the windows open if I'm mixing has always been a weak point of the whole VST standard. If I'm mixing any amount of tracks over 4 or 5 the VST window system becomes completely unmanageable and impractical IMO. That's assuming I'm only using one VSt per track, start adding several and even with a low track count of say 5 the window count soon stacks up to nearly 20 quite easily. With the PC and inspector combined click on a track and there are all the FX in one place with focus ready to work with. Especially easy when switching quickly between tracks not to mention not having to worry about if the compressor threshold I'm adjusting is actually the compressor threshold for the currently active track. Maybe I missed a trick with VSTs somewhere but the PC in workflow terms is streets ahead of anything any third party can offer and pretty close on sound. Result = no brainer choice. The number of times that I use T-racks stuff has dropped considerably. YMMV of course.

xabiton how do these PC modules compare to the T Racks stuff. Hi! I can comment on that and here is my review! Yes SONAR X1 Pro Channel are very addicted that’s true for sure when you start using it’s hard to replace it with something else… Fairchild® 670 I know T-rack and many other 3part plugins how they sound. First let’s talk about T-RackS Deluxe standard plugins. Still good sounding but still nothing special. T-RackS Vintage Tube Compressor/Limiter model 670 of Fairchild® 670 is good but both Nomad Factory Fairchild® 670 and UAD and WAVES sounds better. Here you have some proof on that [link=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uLiRKXwbKeA&list=UUaHqhmOamXzwG2BZ_c-2uOw&index=7&feature=plcp]http://www.youtube.com/wa...dex=7&feature=plcp[/link] Pultec The rest -RackS Vintage Tube Program Equalizer “Pultec” all Nomad Factory plugins Blue Series or PULSE-TEC EQs sounds 10 times better then T-Racks . UAD Pultec sound better too. [link=http://www.nomadfactory.com/products/index.html%3C/a%3E]http://www.nomadfactory.c...cts/index.html%3C/a%3E[/link] The rest Opt, standard comp and standard EQ plugins are nothing special at all in T-RackS series. I don’t even think it sound well. LA-2 Instead now get back to the thing that sounds great in T-RackS series. Let’s start with the new White 2A Leveling Amplifier. That plugin sounds great but Cakewalks new Pro Channel PC2A T Type Leveling Amplifier module sounds even better then both UAD and T-RackS. UAD’s LA-2s sounds great too and that are better sounding then the T-RacksS White 2A Leveling Amplifier. http://www.cakewalk.com/Products/ProChannel-Modules/PC2A-T-Type-Leveling-Amplifier.aspx 1176 UAD 1176 are very good sounding and so does Cakewalk include Pro Channel 1176 version “The PC76 U-Type channel compressor”. T-rackS Black 1176 Limiting Amplifier is very good. I would say it sounds better then Pro Channel 1176 or has a different flavor. All these sound great and different tonality. Here you have a test of hardware 1176-LN VS SONAR X1 Pro Channel http://rhythminmind.net/1313/?p=2618 SSL 4000 Bus compressor Pro Channel PC4K S-Type bus compressor is the SSL-4000 hardware Bus Compressor. I would say it sounds better and snappier then original hardware or the emulation from SSL-Duende Native. T-rakcS doesn’t come or include any bus compressor. Here you have a test of Cakewalks PC4K S-Type bus compressor VS SSL-Duende Native. http://rhythminmind.net/1313/?p=2388 SSL Channel compressor http://www.cakewalk.com/Products/ProChannel-Modules/PC4K-S-Type-Channel-Compressor.aspx Pro Channel PC4K S Type Channel Compressor sounds exactly the same as channel SSL hardware compressor SSL Gate and Expander http://www.cakewalk.com/Products/ProChannel-Modules/PC4K-S-Type-Expander-Gate-Module.aspx PC4K S-Type Expander / Gate exactly the same as channel SSL hardware. The include Pro Channel EQ’s with Gloss filter To be honest I haven’t found any EQ that sounds as good as Pro Channel Pure – E-type – G-type. Hybrid – Pure – E-type – G-type. G-type and E-type is SSL EQ and are found at SSL big hardware console. SONAR X1 versions of G-type and E-type sounds amazing and is my heart of my mixing. The GLOSS filter doesn’t make it worse. That’s a magic button for sure that can’t be found or mimic by any other software. The Pro Channel G-type and E-type sounds even better than SSL- Duende Native EQ. Pure-EQ is Linear EQ and as amazing as the G-type and E-type. Sounds amazing. New Hybrid EQ sounds as good Waves hybrid EQ. Very good and sounds amazing too. Yes SONAR X1 Pro Channel are very addicted that’s true for sure and if I want to change to another DAW I can’t replace the EQ with something else…so I’m totally hooked. The best sounding plugins after PC EQ would be Nomad Factory, then Waves after that UAD.

I said the idea was similar to the modular design on its channel strips. I used SSL as an example only. Its ok for you or anyone else to make a comparison. I want it clear that I didn't.

All I know is the more we discuss, the more I cannot wait to order, very fired up. This thread took on a life of it's own but it has all been very interesting and informative. I will need to split my studio time because the weather is amazing here today, but it will be hard to walk away from producer, again more problems, poor me.
