Upgrade to new system
Hi, I recently upgraded my PC to Windows 7(64). Cakewalk Pro 9 surprisingly still works (provided I start it with admin rights), an old Soundblaster Live! card, for which there are no 64-bit drivers available from the manufacturer, resumed duty with a third party driver (kX) and feeds my time-honoured Cambridge Soundworks speaker system. My Roland PC-200 MkII (silent) keyboard, however, acquired a horrible latency and became quite unplayable. I am therefor ready to replace my antique sound system and after studying various contributions to this forum, I plan to acquire: 1. M-Audio Audiophile 192 soundcard 2. Teufel Concept E 100 PC speaker system I am mainly interested in playing the keyboard, where the program enables me to split the keyboard and to attach different instruments to the parts (like "Vienna" offers but is unfortunately uninstallable under Win7). My preferred method of entering music is by mouse and a notation program (like the one bundled with Cakewalk 9). I am much less interested in live recording, assembling ready-made loops or tweaking envelope parameters of sounds and effects. Which version of Cakewalk would be ideally suited for me? Does the choice of the music software have a significant impact on the sound quality of instruments or is this solely determined by the choice of the sound card? Thank you in advance for your patience and help Fritz
