Upgrading Sonar 5 Producer to Platinum

Hi all,

I have Sonar 5 Producer registered to my Cakewalk account and want to upgrade to the latest Platinum.

I found this : https://www.scan.co.uk/products/cakewalk-sonar-platinum-upgrade which is an upgrade from (it says) any version of Sonar Producer.

Now. According to everything I've seen/read here on Cakewalks site, they no longer offer upgrades on older versions of Sonar. Obviously I don't want to be in a situation where I've opened the package and then I'm refused an upgrade.

So my Q's are:

1) Will this actually work, and,

2) How does it work? Do I simply redeem it here on the Cakewalk site? I can't find any info at all on this.

Ta for any help.

The upgrade deal is no longer valid. I wouldn't risk it. This store probably didn't change the website, or understand the change.

When did Cakewalk revoke Upgrade licenses that are still in the Retail channel as quite a few big name UK Music stores still sell Sonar Upgrades?
Even Scan do and they even sell PCs optimised for Audio work so they tend to be in the loop.
It seems odd that they would revoke when they could allow them and just stop issuing more.
What are you basing your opinion on?

I see they no longer sell them directly which is why I came across this thread.
That along with the cost of the Rolling Upgrade programme is sadly making me think that X3 Producer is the end of the road for me.
Maybe I should have jumped on the Lifetime Updates last year but at the time I wasn't using Sonar enough.

just contact Cakewalk  Customer service. On their past form I reckon they'll honor the upgrade.

In fact having read the advert, I'd buy it, as Scan would be liable to correct anything that goes amiss as they advertise it as an upgrade from any previous version of Sonar Producer.

is "Scan" a reputable site though?
I ask because I've never head of them.

They are a big supplier of computer parts in the UK and they also sell specialist machines for audio and video.

They ceased to offer upgrades from X3 or earlier on May 1 2017. Email blasts went out. Multiple threads here.

Only way to find out if they will honor it is if you ask cakewalk. You can search the forums to see if anyone claims to have gotten an exception.

Well, I ordered it yesterday and it arrived today.

It is an upgrade FROM X3, NOT all previous versions of Producer.

So much for that then.

If you haven't registered it, you may be able to sell it on to an x3 users. there have been some posts from x3 users that were disappointed they missed out on an upgrade offer

Scrub that, their site does say
This is an upgrade from any older Producer version of Cakewalk Sonar to SONAR Platinum Full Retail version
So I would just return it.

The only legal way I see is to log in to the Cakewalk Store.
In the store you see your special upgrade price from version 5.
No seller or shop in the world can give you an upgrade from version 5 to Platinum. Only Cakewalk can.
Return it to this shop.

*UPDATE*

Thought I'd contact Cakewalk Support to get some advice on the matter.

They asked for the key code and advised that it is in fact a valid upgrade. Registered no problem!

Huge thanks to Cake Support!
