Upgrading from MC2 to MC5- Compatibility Question

i have MC2 on my computer running windows XP home edition.   I needed to reload the software, but lost my product codes/etc.   Instead of jumping through hoops to figure that out, I figure I'll just get the MC5 (latest) version insead.  If I upgrade to MC5 will I still be able to access all my CWP's from stuff I did previously with MC2?   I assume it won't be a problem, but I'd hate to somehow lose hundreds of priceless recordings.   Can anyone help me out?

Thanks!
Keith

yes.  all versions are designed to be forward and backward compatible within limits of the plugins and softsynths.

    so, yes, it will workl

Plus, with MC 5's native VST support, you'll have access to thousands more instruments and effects.
So if all your old audio and MIDI tracks and projects are still on your hard drive, you shouldn't have any problem opening them, as Beagle wrote.
I think MC 2 still used the old file extensions (.wrk, .bun) so you may get a message about that when you try to open them. Once opened in MC 5, you can then save them with the new extensions .cwp or .cwb.

Do yourself a favor and go to the local store... big box retailers or music stores, and BUY the BOXED version.

It has the DVD with more toys, goodies, and instrument sounds than you get in the downloaded version.

Plus... you have the key number right there too.

Thanks everyone!   That eases my mind!   The projects are all saved as cwp or cwb, so I think I'm good to go.

    Much appreciated!

Yeah no problem..... I was able to open some really old CW8P files with MC4 so MC 2 files should open just fine.
