Upgrading from Sonar X3 Producer to Platinum

I apologize if this has been answered already (everyone says that, right?)

I'm at work for the next 8 hours, but I will be purchasing and downloading Platinum as soon as I get home. I'd like it to go as smoothly as possible so I figured I'd try to get my questions answered on here while I'm at work. I appreciate the help!

I'll be upgrading from X3e Producer. When I attempt to download Platinum, are there any things that I should have the program NOT install? I don't want to accidentally download duplicates of things I already own from previous versions and clutter up my hard drive. Will C3/the installer intelligently know what I already have and not reinstall things I already own?

Anything else I should keep in mind when I install tonight? Thanks everyone!

If you have X3e just download the platinum program, the help files and Craig Anderton files. You don't need anything else.

Okay, thank you for responding. After reading through a lot of the recent threads this seems to be the way to go. Of course, I'll also download the AD2 file so I can get those from XLN :)

I installed everything Chris, so C3 knows what I have... It does not know about prior installs... You can go either way.

I just finished installing Sonar Platinum, Help and Tutorials, and the Anderton FX Chains. I noticed that all of the other products that are included with Platinum are still "red lit", even though I own them from my purchase of X3 Producer. I'm assuming this means that they won't get updates through the Command Center. Re-downloading all of the other stuff isn't ton of wasted space, but I hate having to download stuff I already have.

It's only a red light. Unfortunately C3 isn't smart enough to know what you already have installed. I know some have downloaded the files just to turn the lights green and have C3 upto date. I didnt.

So I guess that begs the question. If an update, for say Dimension Pro, occurs within the next 12 months, that would be a free update according to your membership agreement. Would you get that update?

Hi, I installed Platinum last night, boy am I tired, had a late one! Awesome work Cakewalk. I only installed Platinum as I have all other products via previous X3 producer, however with regard to AD2 am I right in thinking that I can download extra AD packs? How do I do this with my existing AD installation? Do I have to install AD2 again via the command center?

    Thanks

This is exactly what I'm concerned about. It appears that Command Center is where all future updates occur, not only to Sonar, but to all of the content that comes with it as well. If we don't download all of the included products through Command Center, will they still be eligible (and able) to get updated? Can anyone at Cake chime in on this? :)

Dim Pro has only had about. 3 updates and none of them in the last five years. I can't see it being updated but if by chance it should be I'm sure you'll hear about it. I didn't know about the Platinum update because of C3 I got an email.

    BUMP!!!

I'm also in the same boat....even if Dim Pro hasn't got an update in xx amount years, what about Melodyne, Sound Center and all the others that were included in X3.......how will they be updated if it's not installed via the Command Ctr.??

Your updates come from the Command Center. You dont need to install them. When an update comes in, the led will turn yellow even if it is red at first.

I was in the CC when the upgrade came in from Craig. But if you start the CC and watch the lower bar You will see every time you start ,it checks for updates and you can also see which parts its checking for.

Well, I finished downloading and installing Platinum last night. I ended up just reinstalling everything. I'm just assuming not doing so would cause some sort of issue down the road. Probably not, but I just wanted to play it safe. I started up Platinum once and loaded my most recent project that I was working on in X3, but my iLok licensing software required an update and the Slate plugins in the project wouldn't load. This caused Platinum to not load the project at all; it just stayed on the boot screen and kept showing an error in the bottom-right corner that the Slate plugins couldn't load. Not Sonar's fault, but it required me to Ctrl+Alt+Del to close Sonar. I updated the iLok and was required to restart my computer. I just shut it down and went to bed. Haha! It was late and I had to get up early for work in the morning. I'll play around with Platinum today after work :)
