Urgent help needed

I've been mixing a song all day (contains approx. 40 audio tracks, 8 midi and lots of VSTs), and during playback the audio engine stopped and wouldn't reset. I saved, quit, tried to reopen the project and get this message:

Unexpected Error Code
hr:2147746346 File:
HRESULT:3221225747

The project will not open in safe mode, and does not boot in Windows 7 or my XP partition. I've restarted several times and get the same message. The problem only occurs with this project.

I read 2 threads where users were suffering the same problem - one solution was reached by opening in Safe Mode (mine won't) and one by reinstalling Sonar - is there a quicker way? I've got a client coming around in 2.5hrs to listen to this mix that I've been working on all day - what am I going to tell him?! Any help would be great...

I'll have three fingers of Glenlivet, with a little bit of pepper... and some cheese.

Try loading the project without the plugins as one could be faulty.

I'm on 8.3.1, Win 7 Pro 32-bit, i7 920, 3GB DDR3 RAM, Gigabyte EX58-DS-4, x2 HDDs, and the project contains mainly Waves plugins, but also Sonitus and Cake VSTs.

OK so I just reinstalled and get the same message. I went to the uninstall icon in Program Files-Cakewalk-Sonar 8 producer edition, and then just reinstalled from the disc, installed the 8.3.1 patch and retried. Do I need to do something else to 'properly' reinstall Sonar?

I find the windows uninstaller not very good it leaves behind loads of files and registry entries.
Try revo-unistaller great for clearing up all traces of past installations plus ccleaner is another great tool. The re-install and let me know if you have success.
If its only one project then I would not waste my time doing all this as more than likely it got corrupted and you will never get it working.
You will have to start again.

If you get it open just drag you audio and midi files to the desktop from the track directly at least you will have saved your essential work so all is not lost.

Yay I found the culprit, was the Waves Doubler 4! And before this guy comes round too, now I won't look like such a tool.

Why did this happen, and what can I do to prevent it from happening in the future? When the engine originally froze, I wasn't altering anything, the project was just playing back then decided to go on a bender...

How many tracks were using the Doubler?

If it's a small number, try this.

1 - if they're MIDI, bounce to audio
2 - copy the audio track(s) and paste them into a new file
3 - Apply the Waves doubler in the new file
4 - Print the tracks including the FX
5 - copy & paste back to original project.

    CbB, Platinum, 64 bit throughout
    Custom built i7 3930, 32Gb RAM, 2 x 1Tb Internal HDD, 1 x 1TB system SSD (Win 7), 1 x 500Gb system SSD (Win 10), 2 x 1Tb External HDD's, Dual boot Win 7 & Win 10 64 Bit, Saffire Pro 26, ISA One, Adam P11A,

Glad to hear you recovered your project. Its one of these things. I save a number of projects and number them 001, 002, 003 etc
Just in case after all its software your dealing with and all have bugs that manifest at different times.
