you want to sing through it, and have it be like a rack of effects?

I'd Seize the day but i can't quite reach it!

MC 3 is kinda old....  But.... I;m thinking the effects thing is better done on the recorded tracks and not on the inputs coming in..... Processing in real time takes a heavy toll on a processor.... think LATENCY....

Best bet for live vocal processing is to hit Ebay and buy an Alesis multi-fx processor that is rack mountable. Or a mixer with the digital FX built in.... using a software based FX platform is asking for trouble in my opinion.

you can't print the FX going in.  you can monitor them as you're singing if you use the INPUT ECHO button, but you WILL get an echo assoctiated with it.  if you have a good low latency soundcard, that echo will be very minimal.  if you have a crap soundcard or are using your crap onboard soundcard then the echo will be very noticable and likely unusable.

"Inside and outside of Cakewalk"?? What do you mean? As mentioned by others, if you are using FX live, it depends on the FX in question (how CPU/RAM intensive it is), your computers resources and your soundcard and its drivers whether you can run it in real time live performance or not.

There's nothing to be set "outside CW". The sound will come through exactly the same way and with same settings as in a recording situation. There are no specific "live" settings. So, the cables that are now going to your monitor speakers, or a cable from soundcards  line-out (or even from headphone out, depending on your system) must be connected to your stage PA system. Simply put: Replace your monitors with your stage PA systems.
If I'm overlooking something here (as I've never done what you're trying) someone wiser will correct, I'm sure.

Search ebay for something like this:

    http://www.ebay.com/itm/A...mp;hash=item416feadded

I had one of these.... 99 FX built in... verbs, delays, chorus, flangers, echos..... this one is $40 ..... for live singers, this is more along the lines of what you will need.

I think this particular unit only allows one FX at a time... so you might need several OR buy one that allows multiple FX running simultaneously.
