Use video-thumbnail-pane for other purposes

Maybe Sonars video-thumbnail-pane could be easily adapted so it could be used for other purposes?!
For instance to compare two tracks side-by-side.

Drag clip(s) from track and drop into the thumbnail-pane.
It should act as a temporary placeholder just for the waveform display and should be linked to the position of the original clip(s).
Then scroll in the normal track-view untill desired track is visible just below the thumbnail-pane.
Now you can have two tracks side-by-side.
Usefull when splitting clips, for transient comparison, etc....

I doubt it would be easy to implement, but of course it would be fantastic if this would also work with automation envelopes.
