Useful E-Bay search tools.

I came across these, they might be of some use to you:
  • Local E-Bay Deals Mapper - from MoneySavingExpert.com (Martin Lewis) - great for finding local 'pick-up only' items
  • BayCrazy.com - includes various search criteria including:
    • Local (similar to MoneySavingExpert.com tool)
    • Misspelt word (items which don't turn up in correctly spelt searches, theoretically meaning fewer bids)
    • Auctions ending almost immediately with zero bids
    • Auctions ending in the middle of the night (less likely to have last minute bid frenzy)
    • Unwanted gift search (unused/very new items going cheap)
    • Plus quite a few other searches

On a slightly more serious note, and despite all the buyer-protection they now offer, I'm always a little wary of purchasing anything 'expensive' from E-Bay. At least with the local search thing you can quickly narrow down your search, and contact the seller and see if you can go and actually look at the item.

Mind you, it always pays to be vigilant. I've been following a Peavey 6505+ 112 Combo that the local search picked up in Gloucester (about 30 miles down the M5 from here). The guy's advertised it three times now and got zero bids each time. He's also dropped the starting price from £320 to £299 for the latest insertion which finished this afternoon.

I quite fancied myself some of that valvey goodness so I was that close to bidding the £299 today, bearing in mind the last time I checked the new price of the amp it was around the £500 mark. Taking into account that the amp is quite new, and after adding in the cost of petrol to go and pick it up, I thought it was pretty reasonable.

However, I though it best to check the new prices again just in case and I came across this at GAK - the exact same model, just brand spanking new, for £399, and a free lead to boot. So as it was just a little more than the used item, I ordered it! Should arrive Tuesday/Wednesday

    MMMMmmmmm............. valvelicious
