Using Acronis TI Home 2012 Bootable Media

After checking the threads here I decided to purchase the Acronis TI Home 2012 DVD.

I do not want to install it on my machine so I am using the bootable media to create a backup image.

Once the Acronis screen comes up, I select backup, my disks, select the disk I want to create an image of and specify the target disk and a file name, then select proceed.

A new screen pops up showing the progress. The screen says "1 of 2 - Creating Partition Image".   When complete it says "Backup operation succeeded"

My question is WHY does it say 1 of 2???   That leads my mind to expect a 2 of 2 someplace to indicate completeness...

I did run the validate on the images and it said they were OK but I still have this doubt in my mind and the only way I could really confirm the images would be to restore them. I don't have a spare drive to test on and I'm affraid to do that on my working drives without an answer to my question.

I have been trying to contact Acronis but can't get through on phone or live chat. I finally sent an email tonight but was hoping someone here has experienced this and could shed some light.

Kind regards,
Rick

    It's all good.
If I remember correctly, one is to the create an image of the partition structure and the second is creating an image of the partition data.

    Hi gustabo,

It would make sense that it is a two part process but I never see the 2 of 2. I only see "1 of 2 - Creating Partition Image"

That's what is bugging me. Hopefully Acronis will answer my email and explain to my comfort level.

    Kind regards,
    Rick

Yep.  I see the same weird numbering.  Your approach of only using the bootable media is something I might consider for the new PC (new to me anyway) that I'm putting together right now.

I have had Acronis installed on my PC with Sonar since Sonar 7 and there were no conflicts. I no longer have that as I have installed Win 7 and Sonar on a separate hard drive as a dual boot system.  But, when I do hard drive backups (I only do full drive backups, no incrementals) I boot to my full system disc and backup from there.

    Hi Rick,

    All is fine...
FWIW, I've used True Image hundreds of times (successfully).

If you install True Image, it leaves several scheduling services running in the background.
    You can manually disable those...
Personally, I prefer to just boot from the Rescue CD... as it's completely clean... and you have access to all the features.

    Best Regards,

    Hi Jim,

I really appreciate your reply and feel much more confident that things are working as they should.

I'm in the same camp as you about booting from the rescue media vs. installing the app on my machine.

    Thanks so much.
    Kind regards,
    Rick
