Using Blueline

I want to use the blueline vst but the configuration wizard isn't recognizing it. It shows as a RAR file. What do I need to do? Thanks!

    Hi Bill

You need to 'unzip' the downloaded file before the adapter can scan it for GT3 to use.

Right click on the download and see if you have a 'Unzip' or 'Extract' option there mate.

If not, download the excellent and free ZipGenius

Once you've unzipped the download, you'll have a .dll file which is the effect itself - make sure you scan the folder you've placed it in and you should be good to go Bill.

Bill, check Steve's post again - a RAR file is like a ZIP, it's compressed. You need to extract the .dll file from it.

Novel concept. I think I'll have a guitar put on my urn when I go to the great gig in the sky. Or better yet a guitar in the urn.

    Bill,

After you get a chance to use the Blueline stuff a bit let us know what you think. I was using them for a while but I wasn't real happy with the interface. Maybe I have an older version though.

I like them. I haven't used any in a song yet, it depends on the situation that comes up but I like what I 've heard. I got the link from Steve's list of 25 free downloads I think. My favorite so far though is T-sledge.
BTW, I gave my Mesa V-twin away 2 years ago. I don't know why I did that. I really liked it alot. At the time I didn't think I'd ever play anything again.

Before I stumped up the cash for my PSP Vintage Warmer VST (thanks Doc!) - I used the T-Sledge a lot Bill, it's a great bit of kit for the price isn't it

I do like T-Sledge, I used it on almost all my songs. Since I got Boost 11, I've been trying it in place of T-Sledge but so far not found it to be an improvement, just different. I kind of took it for granted that the Vintage Warmer was more of an analog emulator, I need to play with this stuff some more. Really I need to write another song so I can do some more experimenting.

Bill, a while back Jessie got a V-Twin in some kind of trade and I was wondering how she liked it. I didn't know you had one. I'm very happy with mine as a DI box. I never could use it much as a multi channel preamp like I had originally intended, the boost on the high gain channel seems to be set too high.

I wish i could have used it with GTP3 to see how it would have sounded. You just never know when you have something that might fit that special situation.

It is CJ, but at its heart it's basically a compressor which can be set up like Boost 11 to run as a brick-wall limiter.

I have also been using Boost 11 in the master bus on my latest mixes because it doesn't seem to colour the sound as much as the T-Sledge. I've also used the PSP's Mastering/Mixing presets in the master bus but rarely now - It is, however, a permanent feature in my rhythm guitar bus or in the individual guitar/bass tracks in conjunction with the marvellous GearBox plug-in.

I find using the PSP and the GearBox plug I can record my guitars with just the basic tone from I want using my standalone GearBox and then use the PSP to fatten up and 'vintagise'* the sound while tweaking the effects etc with the GearBox plug (thanks to Doc for enlightening me on both the PSP & the VW!!) - it gives me the best of both worlds.

When I get time, I'll try and record some 'befores and afters' so you can hear the differences.

    Steve

Unfortunately I will be springing for a new copy of the Vintage Warmer 2, since I am using the older version. Nee the new one for 64 bit support so I don't tangle with the bitbridge.

Thanks for the breakdown Steve. I'm waiting for my copy of SONAR to show up so I can start climbing that hill. I figure that I'll stay entertained over Christmas weekend with plugins alone. I finally got SI drums working and it's a bit of a letdown but better than nothing.

I think you should copyright vintagise, it might help you with paying Doc's tab down.

Down in Sandbanks you'd actually spell it with an 'S'.
