Bud: what was the process you used to make those files?  I noticed that both files contained multiple tracks and each track channel was sequential while the original was not.

The only way I know of in Sonar which is what I tried, is to use Save As and select Midi 0 or 1 under File Type.  But that didn't work for me which makes me wonder about the difference between the Sonar and Acid process of converting/saving Midi?

Edit: just saw Dave's post.  While DP is not multitimbral, the files Dub posted played fine albeit all channels played the same patch set in DP though that was not the case with the original file.

All I did was drag the original midi file into Acid without changing anything and selected "export midi".  i did this saving as type 0 and then repeated and saved as type 1.  No other steps

BTW, I'm not necessarily blaming DP because i still suspect that something was embedded in the original file that we missed.

Perhaps but the question I have is why didn't the Save As function in Sonar work but Acid did and subsequently how exactly does Sonar differ in handling Midi formats?

Thanks!

good question.  Up until now, i had not noticed it was obviously different.  Until i figure it out, i at least have a workaround.

Yep, in the Cake sequencer days I noticed a difference and hadn't tried it in a long time until now.  Not sure when & if it changed - thanks!

It really does seem strange that it would act up like this. Like I said earlier, the midi files actually worked with Dimension Pro 1.2, but when I upgraded to 1.5 it started playing up. Not that I hadn't come across this issue before... as I had the same silence problem when I tried using the drum patterns of the same midi files in Session Drummer a while ago.

Interestingly, I seem to recall my old synth player having a similar problem in Logic on his Macbook. Not sure how he got around it.

If anyone can recommend a good midi type converter then that'd be a good help, as I've got about 40 of these odd midi files to convert.

i had a sharweare program back in the 90's that split these kind of files into single instrument midi files but have no clue what the name was.
