Using EastWest Symphonic Orchestra in Sonar - disappearing Play instruments

Hi folks:

I've been using cakewalk since 1989, and I recently upgraded cakewalk (8) to sonar artist and EastWest Symphonic Orchestra Silver to a pro license.  I've got a MIDI file of Beethoven's Sixth that I'm using for practice with the new software.  I add an instance of Play and load my instruments and then save the project.  However, the next time I open the project, the play instuments have disappeared, and the instruments default back to Cakewalk TTS.  It takes a fair amount of time to do all the mapping and hand loading each instrument into Play so I'd like to have a way to save everything to where it reloads when I open the project again.

How can I do this?

Thanks,  Michael

Are you sure you are not re-opening the MIDI file? MIDI files will automatically map to TTS-1 if no MIDI output device is defined. Cakewalk project files do store plug-in assignments and will not automatically use TTS-1.

Make sure that you're saving the projectas a .cwp, not .mid

If you load play stand alone outside of cakewalk and the load the same file, is it where you expect it to be? My play does remember what I have loaded in Sonar and though it takes a while does load whatever I have previously loaded and saved for that PLAY Plugin instance.  I am on platinum but I a assuming Artist is fairly similar on the program version level.  I am not really understanding exactly the steps you are taking before saving the project and then not getting the results you desire.  If you post a detailed scenario I will review and attempt to reproduce , at least then you will know for sure if its....endemic to your particular install.

I have been reopening the file as a MID since that's what shows up as a Open Recent option.  I'll try saving it as a project and see what that does.

    Thanks for the fast response!

    That's most likely your issue.

    Hi folks:

That was the problem.  I've saved the project with the proper extension, and now it opens with everything I had when I closed it including the staff view.

Great to be using cakewalk again,

    Michael
