Using Public DNS for faster browsing.

After a fairly prolonged test period I've recently switched to using this instead of using my ISP's DNS and have got large improvements when browsing in faster load times, fewer stalled pages and less risky redirects occuring.

There are a number of Public DNS resources available these days and they are offered as a service in order that the company offering the service gains traffic information by providing it.  Which sounds more spooky than it is being as you are giving that information to your ISP every time you load a page anyway, except unlike your ISP the Public service provider doesn't have your name telephone number or account details, just a dynamic IP address in most cases.

I'm not going to recommend a provider nor give instructions on setting it up, because what suits me given the shortcomings of my particular ISP isn't going to suit everybody, but there is plenty of information out there on the subject if you are interested in trying it out.

Here's a good place to start though.

Please bear in mind though this will do very little toward improving your bandwidth if you have a slow connection anyway. It will just improve page load times and the stuff related to DNS lookups, if your ISP isn't using a public DNS provider to do this already.
