Using V-Studio 20 and Alesis Multimix8 USB FX with Sonar X3

I have ventured back into the world of writing music after a very long time.  I have a setup that includes the following
Kurzweil PC3
V-Studio 20 with COSM Effects
Alesis Multimix8 USB FX
Dell Workstation with Sonar X3 Producer
(I still need a midi interface) :(

I  had gotten the V-Studio as opposed to pedals as the COSM guitar effects where nice for the price.  I have that set up with my Sonar software as a controller but can't seem to figure out how to get the Alesis Multimix to work with this.  It appears that I have the VS-20 selected in my Audio preferences for inputting sound but there isn't any way to select the Multimix.  There doesn't appear to be a driver to download for the Mulitmix as I thought that was the first place to look.  Windows 7 recognizes the device but it doesn't appear that Sonar does.  I can't find it under the Input or Output pull down menus on the tracks although the mixer is suppose to be able to playback as well as record.

How can I select certain channels on the USB mixer to input to audio tracks on Sonar?
How can I use the VS-20 as a controller and still use the Multimix for inputting  audio?
How can I take any live guitar or mic audio off the VS-20 and input it into an audio track thru the Multimix?

I am having a difficult time and am reaching out to anyone who might be able to provide some guidance.

Thanks for your time.

I have a vs 20 and I also have a Mackie pro fx 12 (a usb mixer)
but I don't use that mixers usb section because it wasn't really intended to work in the situation you are in, with another soundcard, thus you would theoretically be using 2 soundcards.
use the alesis as a mixing board, use it for the mic pres alone, it gives warmth and depth, pres, presence.
let the vs-20 do the load work of being the soundcard.

it may not be recognizing it because it might not be totally compatible with it.
these mixers were meant to record stereo tracks on a software designed by or suggested by alesis, not really in the environment such as sonar

a lot of your answers are in the manuals for both vs 20 and the alesis, some of which I cant answer unless I go to the website and spoon feed you this info of which you'll probably have to do the homework on this.
but send the vs 20 in to the loop of tape in tape out for monitoring purposes and plug instruments in to the alesis, use the mic pres like I was saying before, then feed the output of the alesis in to the vs 20 VIA the usb to sonar.

in simple terms:
1- plug into alesis
2-alesis goes to vs 20 inputs
3-vs 20 is feeding sonars inputs from the usb/digital audio conversions.
