Using V-vocal in X3

I have read that you can use V-vocal in Sonar X3 if you have X! or X2 installed on your system.  Well, I do have X1 installed, but in doing a project in X3, V-vocal does not show up.  Also, in selecting an old project that had V-vocal tracks, I get a message in X3 that it cannot find V-vocal.

How do I get X3 to recognize the V-vocal in my X1 installation?  Thanks.

You may need to re-install it with a "custom install" of X2 or earlier. Just select V-Vocal from the things you want to install.

Note - I have 8.5 > Sonar 2015 installed and I never had to do anything extra to ensure V-Vocal was available in the X3 or Xplat versions... but if a VST/Plugin refresh doesn't magically bring it back, try the re-install technique.

Are you sure X3 is scanning the folder with the V-Vocal dll?  It should be...

V-Vocal is a DirectX plug-in, pointing the VST scanner to the folder is not a good idea. VST reset/rescan also will not help for the same reason. If V-Vocal needs to be reinstalled, there is no separate check box for the plug-in in the advanced install checklist. Reinstalling V-Vocal is part of the SONAR executable installation, the first check box in the checklist.

Ah, thanks for the clarification, scook. Sorry for the mis-information.

Thanks....I thought I could use the info about it being a DirectX plugin, but what I tried did not work.  Background:  When I was using X1, I was using Windows XP (32 bit).  Then I installed a new drive with Windows 7, so I installed X3 as 64 bit.

After your suggestion, I noticed that the V-Vocal dlls were showing up as files in Shared DXI folder under Cakewalk under Program Files (x86), but not under Program Files>Shared DXI (the 64 bit folder), so I copied them over, so they are there but X3 still does not find them.

I have done a reinstallation of the full X! program, although this was after I already had X3 installed on this new drive.  I wonder if this could make a difference. Would it make a difference if I did a reinstallation of X3?  Or is there anything else I can do?

DirectX plug-ins are host specific. You must install the 64bit version of X1 to get the 64bit version of V-Vocal. I would also make sure to remove the 32bit version copied into the 64bit folder first because the installer may skip installing the 64bit version. It is possible installing the X series out of sync (IOW X1 after X3) can mess up ProChannel plug-ins. If you experience issues after installing X1, reinstalling X3 should clear them up.

Thanks much!  I had not seen that info about needing to install the 64 bit version before.  And I followed the rest of your directions.  Now it works!
