Using a free Ram Drive software to improve speed & Yes it is working for some things.

I purchased my PC in late December of last year, 2015 around Christmas, it was an XPS 8700 with an i7Core or that is 4 processors and 8 threads PC.

It came with 8GB's of ram, so a couple weeks later I thought I should add 8GB's more in ram to make sure it could handle my uses for it.

I ended up with 16GB's of ram.

I did a bit of checking and noticed that in "MY PC's" case that it mostly only run around 7GB's of ram. So having 16GB's of ram I decided to make use of some of that extra unused space where ram goes by creating a ram disk/drive using this free software I found. The ram drive I created to use was 4GB's, and the reason why was to make sure that my PC had plenty of room to use more ram in the future. Also Windows Pagefile settings were left at automatic.

The thing is, keep in mind, if the power goes out, or you have a blue screen of death and have to reset your PC you will lose whatever you have in that Ram Disk/Drive....

I found this really great "FREE" Ram Drive program, thing is for 64 Bit PC's it's unlimited in size although I think it will only allow 26 drive to be created because of drive letters. And as for 32Bit PC's I think it's only 3.5GB's on it's size because of the way Windows 32 OS's handle ram and such.

Either way, you can get that program here, it's free for NONE commercial use if you wanna try it out :

I've played around with it since I had so much unused RAM space and I can see a big difference in speed considering all the ram I have and Chrome being my browser of choice. I use the Chrome Account "SYNC" setup, so if the power goes out I wont lose much, or maybe nothing.

It's really speeded things up for me. I don't keep nothing in RAM DRIVE that is important. A video conversion software I use I set it up to work in ram along with a few other things, it's really speeded things up and actually is MAKING USE OF THAT UNUSED RAM!

The reason I am mentioning this is because I thought some of you might find it helpful and perhaps share other possible useful tips on using a Ram Drive. Tech experts don't like them because when something goes wrong they have no logs to view. But the fact is, Running anything in Ram will always be as fast as you can go.

If you wanna speed up Chrome or Firefox, here's a link with some more information.
https://malwaretips.com/threads/speed-up-chrome-firefox-by-using-a-ram-disk.8452/

Thing is, with my Chrome being set to sync everything with my GOOGLE ACCOUNT Logged in then it is saved either way.

But then again, you will get a CCLEANER warning when first running the this software. I have had ZERO problems, and after reading this thread, according to it, so long as you don't run CCLEANER AUTO on windows start you shouldn't have any problems.
At least that is according to this thread link I am adding here : https://www.softperfect.com/board/read.php?16,20522,20522#msg-20522

Either way I am not proclaiming or saying : THIS IS IT where using extra unused ram goes or nothing like that where perfecting using your PC and speeding it up. But I can say, using my browser, and a few things I am not concerned with losing data goes has really speeded things up for me.

I'm just throwing out what I know and what I have heard and I thought some of you might find this really interesting.

How may this help for those who have unused ram? Well wouldn't you like for your browser to work quicker when using it? And have your hard drive not being used all the time when you get on the internet.  Wouldn't you like to click on Youtube Videos and have them play rather than waiting around for them to load?

This all depends on how much RAM you have and your PC, if you just have 4GB's or depending on your system it may make no difference at all. But it's something I thought I would mention because it can be helpful. That is depending on your usage.
If you have useless ram, this can be helpful.

Also, I wanna mention, if you are a Photoshop user like I am, you can create a Ram drive with this free software and set Photoshop's "Scratch Disk" to your ram drive and speed things up that way. Although keep in mind to frequently save anything you are working on to a REAL DRIVE, because there again if you don't if the power goes out or something else happens you could lose everything.

Hope this helps someone. Just some of my thoughts on how to use RAM that is not being used by me. Systems vary, processors vary, hard drives vary, lot's of varies, but depending on how you use your PC, this can be a very useful program, and it's free for none commercial use with no adware/spyware or viruses.

So I thought I would mention it for anyone who might find it useful.

    Hi,

I have a SSD system, and it is really good with a very nice video card (GTX 970) but if there is an issue, it is that connections around the Internet, and specially Comcast's are not very good and the browser has some nasty interruptions, and sometimes simply locks the browser for about 10 to 15 seconds. ESPN's website is a good example of that.

I'm thinking this might be best for music, but have not decided yet or tested it, though I have not had any issues with my 2 music machines at all.

For graphics and such, including all the tools and test things for video and such, it behaves great.

Music is not about notes and chords! My poem is not about the computer or monitor or letters! It's about how I was able to translate it from my insides!

I have no idea, I can only speak of my own experience with what I described which may or may not work for everyone.
Using ram disk for browsers cache's really speeds things up if you have a slow hard drive. Also it is beneficial if you are using a Solid State Drive because using a ram drive in this way helps by avoiding unneeded write's to an SSD drive.

Flash drives have a limited amount of writes, how many those are, time can only tell, but I can tell you from personal experience that if you use then over and over and over that they will eventually fail.

Not going to get into storage for data and master tracks. That's a different subject.

I was just pointing out how useful Ram Disk can be and this one is FREE for non-commercial use.

Rule of thumb, if your PC can't handle what your wanting to do, then upgrade your PC with Ram or a new PC, but then again, if your PC can handle what you are doing and it has multiple processors and unused RAM then what I am speaking of could be useful to speed a few things up and also be used for various other reasons.

Best of luck!!!! Thank you for replying!!!!
