Using external controller for automation?

I am a guitarist, I am using 8.5 producer and what I would like to do is take advantage of automation for Whammy & Wah effects for plugins like PodFarm & Amplitube. I have tried drawing the envelopes for these plug ins but the sweeps arent natural. I have a Voodoo labs Ground Control Pro as well as a Mission labs expression pedal. I was hoping I can connect this to my PC via the usb to midi cable I have and "automate" the Wah & Whammy sweeps. Has anyone done this? Des anyone know if it can be done?
