Using monitor out phone to xlr

At my church, I want to take one of the 1/4" female monitor sends and run it through one of the xlr cables to get to the stage.  Then I want to convert it back so I can plug it into a monitor amp on stage to drive a smaller monitor.  Can I buy a simple converter to go male phone to female xlr on the mixer side then male xlr to male phone on the stage side?  Or, do I need to convert the phone to low Z before I attach to the xlr and then covert back to hi z on the stage?

Thanks much.

Hey Rimshot - I've done the same many times.  You shouldn't need a converter but only an adapter.  If the Send on your mixer is a balanced send, then use a balanced M(TRS) 1/4" -> M-XLR (if using a send channel on your snake) or F-XLR (if using a normal channel on the snake) adapter.  Then use the opposite configured adapter on the stage end although I'd keep it XLR if your amplifier has that as an input option.

But I certainly may be corrected by someone more knowledgeable.  Hope that helps!

OK thanks.  How would I know if the phone is balanced or unbalanced?

User Guide/Manual - what model is it?

FWIW - either TS (unbalanced) or TRS (balanced) will probably get the job done since ultimately your monitor input is unbalanced but there will probably lower possibility of noise issues with a balanced configuration depending on the distance your running especially if you have a balanced XLR/TRS input on your amplifier.  You're not going to damage anything by giving either a shot.

What I do if this is going to stay permanent,  is remove the XLR from an unused snake channel and add a TRS 1/4" jack at the mixer end. They do make adapters but this is a much better way.
At the stage end you can make or by a cable that is XLR ( snake end) and 1/4 TRS to plug into the monitor. Assuming it's a powered monitor.

If the mixers Aux sends are unbalanced ( Our was, a Yamaha 1202) then you go ahead and try it anyways and see if you get a bad hum on stage. Sometimes you get lucky and if the Monitor has a balanced input it will work fine.
If not,  you will need to use some kind of convertor/ DI box or. I used a Yamaha EQ which has both balanced and unbalanced in and out at the mixer end.

Most  1/4" in and out jacks will say "Balanced" if they are. If nothing is written then assume they aint.
You will need to look in the manual spec sheet.

Thanks to all.  I am going to try the plug convertors first.
