Using synths as effects plugins

OK I've gotten the Z3ta+ and Reactor and Absynth  to work but
FM7 and 8, Pro53 and all the Arturias won't.

I'm inserting them into the effects bin in a TTS drum track.

Do I need to do a complex bus thingy...?  Or some special line out from the Arturias?  Clueless FTM...

The synth has to be programmed to work as an effect. Some synth provide this support and some don't.

Well...along that line if the synth shows up in the browser with "efx" appended to its name than I imagine it has been programmed to act as an effect.  The synths with this name appendage are the ones i am trying out.

Good morning.  I will work on this some more today and report back...

The good news is that it looks like not many people use these synths as effects - which means I don't have a lot of competition in this area...

BTW the results on the ones that worked so far is incredible.

No complex bus thingies...just proper dll's...

For FM7, you'll want to look for a dll named FM7fx.dll.  I don't know about the rest of your suspects.  Basically, synths that can be also used as fx will have a separate dll dedicated to that purpose.  Usually, vendors are pretty good about leaving a hint in the dll's filename to denote its purpose.

I keep my VST's and VSTi's in separate directory trees, so I have to explicitly look for the FX versions of synth dll's and move them into the VST directory tree.  (I got into that habit when WaveLab went crazy trying to scan VSTi's...so I had to "quarantine" them where WaveLab wouldn't find them.)

    1. Often you need to hold down a key on the synth used as an FX device for it to work.

    2. I tested Pro53FX, and you need to turn up the "EXT IN" control located under the mixer (as well as hold down a key).
