Using the VS-700-R as Pre-Amps

I am under the assumption that one can connect the output of the VS-700R via ADAT to an interface, is this true?  I hooked up my unit via TOSLINK and Word Clock cable to my RME UFX; the lights on the RME are on but I'm not getting any sound from the VS-700R.  What did I miss?  Is there some kind of dip-switch I have to hit on the VS-700R?  I am trying to see if I can use it as pre-amps.

Has no one tried this yet?  Any info would be helpful...

I have a Motu 2408 MkIII hooked up ADAT to the V700R. The V700R likes to be the master and needs the Sonar Software. As far as I know it does not work in standalone mode. You can try to send to the RME, but setting the inputs and wordclock are going to be problematic with the V700R as the master. I'm sure you could slave the RME to the V700R as I have the Motu for 8 more channels, but they will not have V700R pre-amps. I run the Motu through a Mackie mixer and use the gain knobs as preamps before it hits the V700R. The RME has no pre-amps?

The RME has four pre-amps, which sound great, but since it's replacing my V-Studio (its routing capabilities and conversion are superior), I wanted to use the V-Studio as 8 additional pres, as I usually need 14-16 mics at a time (I use a Digimax - which I am soon to replace - for 8 additional pres).

Okay - got someone on the phone - the unit can't be used this way.  So, it's for sale again.

Now for my next question.  How can we use the VS-700C in standalone mode?  I flipped the switch and installed the drivers, yet it doesn't come up as an option in the Controllers/Surfaces menu.  Or maybe I installed the wrong drivers?  This site: http://www.cakewalk.com/Download/default.aspx doesn't have them anymore...

I don't see what the big deal is. Hooking up the RME ADAT to the V700R is basically the same. You still get all the features of the RME.
