V Studio 20 - Already own Guitar Tracks Pro 4

I already own Guitar Tracks Pro 4 with a UAG 1 but am interested in buying the VS 20.  I am new to recording and at 51 my brain seems to absorb the physical tactile world quicker than the computer based.  The VS 20 appears to be the ideal solution.  However, would this integrate automatically with Pro 4 or would I need to go through the control surface mapping route like other DAWS.  On flicking through various discussions the inference is that if I uninstall Pro 4, then add the VS 20 and Guitar Tracks software provided I could then reload the Pro 4 version and it would add in the extra features without interfering with the straightforward functionality of the VS 20 features.

I am not an owner of Guitar Tracks Pro 4 but I added VS 20 as a control surface in Sonar over the weekend and it works great in it.  I think you need to download the control surface software/driver on Cakewalks  VS20 support site.  It took me about 4 clicks to get it set up.  It seems from what I am reading and seeing that this will work as a controller with any of the Cakewalk programs.

Thanks Terry.  I am probably going to go the same route and see what happens.  I would have gone with the software provided but it doesn't have the piano roll view or studio instruments included so was hoping to see if there was awayy to get the best of both worlds as I like the look of the on screen funtionality.

Thomas, your VS-20 will work perfectly with any of Cakewalk's recoding software products.

That's whether or not you use it as your system's soundcard, as a Controller, or just for recording using the Boss COSM amps and effects (or even using them in 're-amp' mode).

For more details on upgrading, check out the thread you started earlier - I've left some advice there too
