V-64 Vocal Strip causing Audio to become completely disfunctional

Just upgraded to Producer from Studio yesterday, and just tried out the Vocal Strip on a rather difficult vocal track to mix correctly.
 
It is making my entire audio situation go ballistic. Sometimes, after inserting and turning it on, everything will play ok for a few. But if I touch a single control on the thing, or even move the channel fader, my sound pops off (with actual pops and clicks to remind me that something is amiss, in case I didn't notice all the sound going away). The audio engine dropped once, but in most of my experimenting with this problem, it is simply all sound going bye bye, the transport continuing to run, and anything I do to touch a control causes annoying pops and clicks.
 
To compound the issue, deleting the Strip from a channel does not fix the problem, nor does just turning it off. I have to do a complete restart of X3 to get sound back.
 
So, anybody have any clue what could be causing this, and is there a fix?
