VC-64 Can it be used in other programs?
I own Sony Vegas 10e, a nice video program and want to use the VC-64 in Vegas on the same machine (Vista 32 bit/Sonar 8.5). Other Cakewalk/Sonitus VST plugins work in Vegas but for some reason VC-64 gives me an error message. Is there a way to get it to work in other hosts or is it exclusive to Sonar?

Most software share the VST's. For me they just always seem to show in the other software, ( Wave Lab, Cubase and Reaper ) that is if they are in the shared plug in folder. In the case of VC 64 I had to manually copy it into my Steinberg plug in folder Just find it in the Sonar VST folder and copy to the Sony VST folder. They are found under my computer/programs/ Sonar or Sony / Plug ins I just did this and VC64 worked fine in Wave lab EDIT: IT LOADED BUT FROZE WAVE LAB SO NO CAN DO WITH THIS ONE>

I was under the impression that VC64 and all of the other "premium" plugins that come with the producer package wouldn't work in other DAWs. if you've got them to work, Johnny, then that's great.

Well guilty as charged,, I just tried it again and Wave lab freezes up! Sorry about that. Sloppy detective work. I'll edit my first post to avoid wrong info spreading. Some people don;t read past first answer.

you're right beagle I sent mail to cake support to ask this question, and premium plugins run only with Sonar. Even in project5 it doesn't load...

probably because P5 is no longer being developed and they would have had to modify P5 in order to allow it to use the new premium plugins.

Thanx for the responses. I think it kinda s*cks that it can't be used in other programs since the other "lesser" Sonar/Cakewalk plugins work just fine in Vegas.

those aren't "premium" VSTs. VC64 was actually written by Kjaerhaus and was bundled as part of sonar. I'm sure they had an agreement that it couldn't be distributed to other applications since they get their money from the sales of the sonar bundle. typical business relationship. the other DAWs probably have VSTs like that as well.

While I wouldn't say that it's "typical"...I would say that it's not completely uncommon for the distribution aggrement to require that the plug not work in any host but the one it's bundled with. (Voxengo's reskinned Perfect Space and Native Instruments Guitar Rig aren't hobbled this way, for instance.) The only other plugs that I can think of that suffer this fate are True Piano and the ProChannel suite. The rationale with Vintage Channel and True Piano was to tease you into buying the full product from the original vendor. That rationale kinda took a left turn with Kjaerhaus, since the vendor now no longer exists.

Remember that the "Kjaerhaus Golden Channel" is nearly identical in function to the VC64 as that is where the code came from. The Golden Channel is still available out there and it will load into other programs.
