VIDEO - All I Can Think Of (Julianna & Peter Estberg)

Hi guys!  Been working on this one with  a DIFFERENT friend in Sweden... this is a sweet little folk song for which I threw together a little video - nothing out of this world, but something to look at, anyway.    Made it as a surprise for him, since it too me about 2 months to finish it and get back to him (Sick, Thanksgiving, Christmas, etc...).

Note that the final audio recording of this is better than the audio on the video, so pardon my plosive in the very beginning (ARGH!).  When I have another 10 hours (yeah, right), I'll fix it, re-render and re-upload.  But I used live vox for the video, since much of it is me singing... Didn't want to lip synch (or rather, didn't want to edit the matching up of the lip synching).  So it was a trade off.  I figured that youtube would compress the audio so badly, that it wouldn't matter if this wasn't the best mix.  And, it's ok... just not stellar.

Lyrics and Music by Peter Estberg.
Vocals by Julianna McDuffie (c'est moi)

Bravo to the both of you!

I could go on and on about the composition, arrangement and performances. Visually and musically, this is an excellent production. Very engaging. I want to see/hear more of this. ;)

Beautiful song, a strikingly simple track that fits perfectly and one amazing (live, nonetheless) vocal performance.  And the vid is pretty cool too (liked the spiraling tree in particular).  Let me say this- with a performance like that, you can compress it, depress it, kick it and even distress it... and it still sounds great.  Sorry, I'm out of adjectives, Julianna, but this was truly remarkable.

    Ah, the quintessential perfectionist.
It's better than you think, m'lady.
Yes, we have the technology to fix many things, but a well rendered live performance smokes anything we can do in the studio, imho.
Don't sell yourself short. This is quite nice.

Gee!  Didn't think so many people would stop by, given that I've not been around much at all lately.  But, Thank You, all!

JC, I think you have some competition... Phil, what nice words, my friend.

And Robert, too... I know, I'm just a *tad* on the perfectionist side (understatement of the year)... I'm pretty hard to live with. :)

Tom, Janet, Flavio & Bobby - Thank you!  Glad you enjoyed it!

    Hi Julianna,

Very nice song and an outstanding performance by you!

Your 'live' vocal sounds perfect to me and you look fantastic.

Great eye contact with your audience ( camera ), etc...excellent, excellent!

You look much taller on TV.

This is just a great melody and I love the simplistic arrangement. Guitars, Vocals, all of it is really sweet.

Very nice work.  Such a pretty song.

    Hi Julianna,

I'm really impressed with this song and the video too.   It's one of the best songs up on the forum right now.  The acoustic music I've been hearing out of Sweden and the Nordic countries over the last several years is some of the best acoustic music I've ever heard.  It's like a cross between pastoral English folk music and American singer songwriter music but it has it's own unique feel to it as well.  Your voice is the icing on the cake. I like your singing here because it's very restrained but it stands out beautifully.  It fits the song well.  I wouldn't worry too much about the live vocal take, it sounds fine to my ears.

Exceedingly invoking, hypnotic, romantic, haunting, beautiful, and altogether lovely.

You're loving gaze, love-craft, performance, Scandinavian melancholy, the trees spinning, the deepest love groans, the otherworldliness, dreams, surreal magic ... make this altogether wonderful, lovely, and eternal, IMHO.

This is my favorite forum-You-Tube I've seen as well (of the 5 or 10 I've seen/listened to).  Obviously, this is monumental effort but expressed with utmost charm, directness, hope, and beauty.

Despite the You-tube quality, the mix also is topmost shelf, to my ears.

This piece, along with Yoyo's and MGH's latest rock spells ... should keep my head spinning in amazement for quite some time.

Wow Wow WOW!  Get busy and neglect your thread for a few days and come back to all kinds of juicy compliements.... Not a bad way to start the day....

If anyone is interested, here's the current AUDIO version of "All I Can Think Of" all the  way from Sweden. You'll hear the difference.  ;)

Gary, Herb, Cliff, thatsarat, Tap, BIABdude, Beagle, radio & Scotty... Thank you.  I love making videos, but it's always a question of having video to edit... I literally went outside and shot 5 minutes of tape to play with for this.  No, it's nothing special, but Oooh!  I love to edit...

Daryl, oh yes.  MUCH taller on TV.  Also a little wider.

Yeah, Ralph, I belong to a Swedish Music forum as well... there are some REALLY good artists there that no one knows about.  I've really been enjoying them.

Greg, I ask myself the same thing... I guess I missed a door/window/left-hand-turn... something like that...  I think we all did.  :D

Great stuff, Mike - Thanks for sharing that!

    Great Job all around!!!

I liked the choice of B roll shots... the abstract nature of the shots left me listening to the lyrics.

May I suggest some voyeur, or off axis, perspectives of you while you are singing.

Looking straight in the camera is a daring move in film or TV production.

There is a psychological power of presenting a speaker or singer as if the viewer is watching a conversation rather than being specifically engaged by the performer.

It is more relaxing and somehow more powerful... it also leaves room for the times when you do engage the camera and provides maximum impact on the occasions you do look straight in to the viewers eyes.

Keep it up... the world need to hear your voice more often. :-)

    best regards,
    mike
