VRM box issue
Any VRM box users out there who could help with this ... I had this box working fine then stopped using it for a while. Coming back to it now, I can't get the green light to stop flashing when I plug it in ... I've updated the drivers, tried all the USB slots on my PC but same problem. Any suggestions on what could cause this?

This probably isn't your problem but I'll relate my experience anyway. Ever since upgrading to Windows 7, my VM box comes up with a blinking light about 50% of the time I start the computer. If I unplug the USB cable from the back of the VM box and plug it back in after a few seconds, I usually get a good connection. Annoying to be sure, but at least it does function.

Thanks dmbaer for the suggestion. I used to also get the same. Now when I take the USB out of the back of the VRM box and back in again, it still stays blinking.

Does the VRM box work, anyway? Is it enabled in device manager? Are your inputs set to receive spdf?

I had that issue when I installed v1.3 so I uninstalled, reinstalled v1.2 and haven't had a problem since...

My VRM box does that. It seems to have a favorite usb port and does the flashing thing sometimes. I unplug the usb cable and plug it back in. sometimes it takes a couple of tries to get it working. Rocky

Well version 1.4 (link above) driver came out two weeks ago. Another thing to run is Windows update several times including optional performance fixes. There have been updates in windows that effect performance and stability of USB. Another thing to do is check you are on the latest chipset drivers which can handle your USB ports, easiest way to do it is this: http://forum.cakewalk.com/Driver-Boost-m2928792.aspx Finally upgrading to the latest firmware (always the last thing to do) can help, for the device and your PC's motherboard (which have has the USB functionality built in). So a big chain of dependant software and hardware to follow...

Thanks for the input - I did the update drivers thing, and my chipset did need it - but, so far no luck, my VRM box green light is still flashing. Lynn - I don't see the VRM Box in the device manager. It IS in the "Devices & Printers" list, but has a mark "needs troubleshooting" (which does not work).

There's your problem. I don't specifically know how to resolve that unless you reinstall VRM from scratch. Perhaps the new driver will stay connected after not using it for a period of time. That was a reported bug fix. Good luck, and let us know how it turns out.

Hi,
For my setup I connect the VRM to my SPDIF outs via the router SW on my Focusrite Liquid 56 and the things seem to sync just dandy. I think initially had the flashing light problem before I did this - but don't remember.

Thanks Lynn - your suggestion put me on the right track - the VRM box DID in fact show up in Device Manager as a generic USB device. It had a yellow triangle next to it and clicking that found the error message "Windows cannot verify the digital signature for the drivers required for this device". Surfing the net I found out I needed to got Advanced Boot Options by pressing f8 on startup, and there choose "Disable driver signature enforcement". This worked, and the green light on the VRM box is now not flashing. Hope this helps out someone else in the future.

Thanks, I'm glad to have helped. I learned something, too. I didn't know about the advanced boot options. I haven't needed this, but you never know when it'll come in handy.

Hi all,
Don't mean to hijack this thread, as I am also interested in getting the VRM box. I however have a question regarding the liquid 56 here. How do you use instrument inputs 3 and 4??? To be honest I am lost !!! When I plug my guitar in input 3 nothing happens, bur when I plug into input 4 I get signal in meter 3. My brain is about to explode. I found a tutorial on the sweetwater website on how to set up the interface with sonar, but I still don't get it the video is too blurry. Thanks for any info you might offer.

You'll get a better response to this question if you start a separate thread about it.

Hi, I find the Liquid 56 a really solid unit, however the software that Focusrite supplies with the unit can be confusing. Graham did a good intro over on his Recording Revolution. com page: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QThwBmaBROEI basically use the default settings for DAW Tracking, Zero Latency Tracking, or Mixing as described in the Liquid 56 manual (depending on what I am doing a the time). For the VRM unit, I direct my mix outs (DAW 1&2) to the Liquid 56 SPDIF out and then connect these to the VRM SPDIF in. I also connect the VRM with a USB cable to my DAW too which allow you to control to VRM environment. Graham also has a good review of this on his site: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_2UvbLuaOdUBy the way, was using X2, but gave up about a year ago and am now using Presonus Studio One. No rag on Cake, but I just find Studio One’s work flow more efficient and the Project page makes tweaking mixes a joy and things just work. Hope you get things sorted out and I certainly hope the problem is not being caused by X2 some way. g

I just re read you post on not getting a signal. You need to go into the Liquid 56 software and select the direct input for channel 3. It defaults to the mic input on the back of the unit. The info is in the Liquid 56 manual on page 15. Hope that helps! g

Agh ... my solution was only a temporary one. The "choose "Disable driver signature enforcement" from the Advanced Boot Options" only works until the computer starts again, so I'm back to the same issue with flashing green light. I can't do this f8 thing every time I start my PC - anyone any idea of a permanent fix?

You said you found the VRM in devices and printers. It should be under sound, video, and game controllers in device manager. I don't know if you can move it from one place to another, but have you tried a complete re-install?

When it worked, then the VRM Box was seen under sound, video, and game controllers. I did try a complete uninstall, and reinstall --- problem there was it said "a newer version of the driver exists" so then, presumably, went on to use that (which gave me the problem) ... if I could somehow use the older driver then perhaps things would be OK - anyone any idea what the driver name would be so I could try and locate the newest version and delete it?
