Cakewalk Inc did not own or build the hardware - but once we're through the first release, there are a lot of things we will be working on and digging into

Now that so much of China has gone through an industrial revolution, it could be quite doable to get hardware made specifically for Sonar software.
It's something I'd love to see in the future.

Also a GUI in Chinese would be great because it would use so much less space for words. I say that as someone only starting to learn the language.

It would be sweet man!  I have a VS700 that I used for years and just replaced it with an RME UFX.  It's sitting in a closet and I'd love to get it back to life!  Hope it happens!

Yes, please do this!  I got one really inexpensively, but I have yet to really try it out, and I was wondering what I should do with it at this point.  So, please, do what you can to make this a reality!

As noted previously, the VS-700 still works with Sonar and Windows 10, just do a minor driver tweak that's detailed in the hardware forum. It would be great if BandLab brought it more up to date with the new Sonar features, but the VS-700 already does most of what you want.

Most importantly to update and fix the integration, please match the channel strip control section with the prochannel EQ.  It used to match perfectly in X1 right out of the box, now it is really screwed up with Sonar Platinum.

Hi Dave,
You can match the VS-700's prochannel EQ with Sonar Platinum by modifying the "genericpluginparams.xml" file in the "C:\Users\windows account name\AppData\Roaming\Cakewalk\ACT Data" directory.
It's not easy but it works

Very impressed that you are even considering it! I think the biggest issue is the lack of signed Windows 10 drivers for the VS700. If just that could be resolved with Roland, it would be awesome!

Cheers,

I had it operating in Windows 10 until the anniversary update and then everything went haywire. Never could get it back. I switched to an audient id14, focusrite Isa one and a Behringer xtouch.

Yep the 700 gear is great but the 'demise' of Cake meant mine got sold and doing so has actually been ok because playing with new softwares showed me how behind Cake was in a few areas...controllers was one of them. The revival of Sonar however is freaking GREAT news....!
The XTouch does the job very well with a much smaller footprint and the Focusrite IO is actually brilliant in comparison to the 700R.
Again the 700 gear is excellent but it was certainly left behind post 8.5 IMHO.
Good news from Meng for sure however time will show what fruit will grow. A fresh hardware option may be the best option as the 700 gear already worked under W10...it was the X series of Sonar integration that lacked. Hope they can create the magic again for those still using it.
Cheers all!

I think it's up to Roland to be good enough to write drivers for the hardware which they have been refusing to do. No idea why, maybe just spite.

Re: VS700 Support Request 2018/04/04 06:18:57 (permalink)
Another (former) VS-700 user here.  I've been in computer hell for the past month, trying new combinations of hardware and software.  The bottom line is nothing I've tried has compared to using Sonar with the VS-700 system.  I now have a Slate Raven MTi2, which is fantastic, but I still miss the VS-700 console.  The rack unit is still the best audio interface for my needs, but now it's sitting there in the dark because I haven't been able to get it running under Windows 10.  I've tried another interface but it's been nothing but trouble.  And I really miss the Fantom VS.  The whole experience has been rather depressing.

I am incredibly excited to hear BandLab express interest in bringing this fantastic system back from the dead, along with Sonar.  I realize there are no promises, but it's nice to kindle a tiny glimmer of hope.  Please do keep us posted.  This would be a fantastic boon to many of Cakewalk's most loyal, invested users.   Thank you so much!

I still have and use my VS700c. It's not as reliable as it used to be because of a lot of the controls no longer working in Sonar for some reason or another. I'd love to see new life brought back to this unit because I have yet to find another console that is as well laid out or designed as this. Ronald really screwed the pooch when they decided to put the VS system on the back burner then discontinue it because it's a real gem.

Thanks heaps, Meng.

I believe I mentioned before that I've had a lot of issues with some of the controls on it like the shuttle wheel. It's sending messages when used but for some reason does nothing in Sonar. Likewise a lot of the access panel controls no longer do what they are supposed to be doing and some of the transport controls do the same. If they could manage to get everything working in some way, I'd be terribly happy.

Meng, I hope you are serious about this, and not just telling people what they want to hear. It is great news.  Anybody who owns a VS700C knows how great the system is and how nice it is to sit in front of it! It is just so condusive to making good music.
I bought my system in 2010, quite expensive it was. It is running beautifully and I keep it patched, despite no support from Roland, which is a disgrace to their customers.
I look forward to developments!
Many thanks! Louis

I've decided to shelve my VS-700R.   I'm using a Focusrite Scarlett 18i20 now.  The VS-700R was a better unit, and I miss the Fantom.  But I've got plenty of other synths.  I certainly DON'T miss that incessant fan noise (what were they thinking?).  Now that Cakewalk by Bandlab has arrived, I'm considering adding my VS-700C back into my arsenal.  But I'm not sure that's because I "need" it or just miss that gorgeous console on my desk.  I'm using a Slate Raven MTi2 now, which works splendidly with Cakewalk.  Moving forward!

Harrison Consoles has recently added great support into MixBus for the Tascam US-2400.  Maybe full support for VS700 would be even easier for newest OS and Sonar?  Would be great for you all for sure.

Hi Meng, just wondering if there is any progress with the VS700 system?  Any plans to update the system, or even build a new system?  Personally, I need something right now that has low latency for recording with plugins real time, therefore I may be in the market for a new interface anyway this year...but I would hold off if there was something from/for Cakewalk.

I do have a SI-24. And that unit has coloured leds. I would love to see a function in ACT to use coloured leds. They from RECORD (RED) To GREEn To Orange. And its a cool feature. Wich still works in Logic 5 on my system. It is I think a better way to work than to use any screen. As I have a Tascam DM24 too. Cannot make HUI work either.

My Edirol M16-dx is a wonderful unit too. It has a limited remote control. But for what it is it's nice.
