VS-700C Bricked?

Thanks in advance for your help.

I was attempting to upgrade the firmware of my VS-700C. Unfortunately, although the drivers were installed, the firmware updater could not see the console, which has left me with a device that has no firmware. Even more unfortunately, since my Win7x64 computer cannot find the console for a driver installation, I'm not even able to re-install the drivers. Is there a factory reset for the device? Is there another method that I can do to get the computer to recognize the console, now that it has no firmware?

    mmmm did you made the steps again while assuring yourself the right dip switchs were turned on?

    You must be careful cause the dip switch  are upside/down, so the one you could think is no1 could easily be no.8, so be careful when doing it again.

    Hey, Chron, sorry this happend to you, too.
     
    I had exactly the same problem, but I couldn't get anyone to tell me how to do a hard reset.
     
    Cakewalk just told me to take it to an authorized repair facility.  Although it was under warranty, that didn't cover botched firmware upgrades.  I'm lucky because there's a great musical instrument repair place in Denver called MARS Amplifier Repair.  They keep my Marshall stack humming.  They had it three days, and it came out perfect WITH the new firmware installed.  I don't remember how much they charged, but I couldn't complain.

    Hey Chrono, it is well worth retrying the steps as I can remember crapping my pants at one stage of the upgrade but it worked out ok. It was a long time ago now so I can't recall the particulars to be of much assistance other than to say 'rinse and repeat'.

    Plugging the console back in, does the PC detect it as a device at all?

    THE worst case is that you will have to get it to a repair center as mentioned which is an obivous inconvenience but at least it is recoverable.

    Hope it works out for you ok..... you could buy mine if you like.

    All,

    Thanks for the responses. It seems that a reboot, some time away from the VS-700C and retrying the DIP switch settings let me re-install the driver, subsequently allowing me to push the firmware. Although there's a possibility that I could have legitimately botched the firmware and a few days without power reset the EEPROM to a factory default, I have to suspect a combination of an incorrect DIP switch setting and frustration.

    Haven't been around here for a while. Glad to see that this community is still Cakewalk's best asset.

    I think I mentioned it here before but those dip switches are tricky.  I had a similar problem when I tried to update the firmware and I think it was because I thought I moved the dip switch to the right location visually but it wasn't set right.  If I remember correctly, you should hear a clicking sound once it's set correctly.
