VS-700R as standalone

I apologize if this has been addressed elsewhere. Does the VS-700 rack module function as a standalone firewire audio/MIDI interface a la Digi003 Rack, or does it only work in conjunction with the VS control surface?

    It can also work as a stand-alone interface.

    The V700R is a USB interface. No firewire my freind.
