VST ERROR- Admin/Expert Help PLEASE
If anyone can point me in a direction to get this problem solved I would be forever grateful. I just finished recording vocals for a 14 songs cd due to release in September. Went to open up Sonar this morning and received this message { ok, so it won't let me post a url or link to image in my dropbox} the message says Runtime Error ! Program: C\Program Files\Cakewalk\Shared Utilities\VstScan.exe This application has requested Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way I have done nothing different. I have all paid for and legit plugins and my computer stays offline except for emergencies. I am now dead in the water until I resolve this problem. Any help is appreciated.....thank you in advance -David

Hi. You cannot post links or images until reaching 25 posts (cannot see your image). Try describing / quoting the message, Best of luck. Edit. Hi. Your image showed up after my answer. Have you done any updates (or not) lately? Maybe try reinstalling SONAR to see if there is a problems, if nobody else comes up with a better solution (they probably will )

In the Toast VST popup see where the scan is hung, what VST. Once you have the problem VST isolated you can remove it or if it did work in the past try uninstalling it and reinstalling it.

Thank God for technology and mobile phones while waiting for kids... No new plug-ins since I reinstalled EZ Drummer. I will look at the Toast VST thing you mentioned. I save all my projects as bundles and plug-ins and passwords aside in case a full reinstall is necessary. When I tried to uninstall Sonar and Reinstall Sonar.....same error though the whole process took less than 10 minutes so I'm not convinced it was a complete u install by Cakewalk

Do you have system restore enabled? Doing a restore to a point when you knew the system was running should work and will not affect data files.
Did you get notification of a crash dmp file being created?

I don't mean Sonar I mean the VST that hangs the VST scanner. (Sorry if I wasn't clear.) I doubt Sonar is at fault. None the less, I'm glad you did try that.

HhHmmm....system restore......damn I hate to go with that. Would I lose files from other programs I've created like edited pictures and videos in Sony Vegas and Adobe?

Restore only modifies changed programs/registry entries. There is an info button when you select a restore point that will tell you what will be undone. No data files are touched by that process.
That info list can also provide insight into what was done to your machine since the last time you knew it worked.

I noticed you said you back up all your projects as Cakewalk bundles. These days we recommend you don't do that as once any element is corrupt the whole thing is done. Better to save as Per Project Audio and just backup the whole folder somewhere if required.. Bundles don't really save much space.
