VST Errors in Cakewalk
I had a *large* number of VST's that threw obscure errors during initial scan. These same VST's work just fine in SPlat. Meng and Noel, why did this happen and will it be corrected? All else in Cakewalk is ultra cool *and* I have not had a single crash yet... great job, guys!

I had three hangs on VST scan. Killed and restarted. All in all I had three other VSTs that said they were "suspect". I chose to enable anyway. One of them (the full TH3, not the SONAR version) always says that on a startup of CbB. SPlat VST scan returns a count of 2376 where CbB returns 2366. I've accounted for 6 32bit plugs that don't scan in CbB but do in SPlat. The other four seem like they are the three plugs that "hung" where I needed to restart the scan and one other plug. <EDIT> I fixed all my errors. See my posts below.

I had to add my VST 2 plugin path to Cakewalk’s scan path. However, on e I did that I get the same plugin numbers for both Sonar Platinum as I get for Cakewalk. Maybe you need to check some things out before jumping to the conclusion that it must be Cakewalk. I have over 1,000 plugins and whilst having a single error on the initial scan, once I added the additional path all was OK. Try going to Preferences/VST and select Reset and rescan. 32 bit plugins can also create issues as they are not likely to have been kept up to date if they only come as 32 bit.

I think I read somewhere that 32 bit plug ins are no longer a choice. I could be mistaken. If true it's a downer for me but not a deal breaker.

For the record, I'm not saying Cakewalk is the culprit. I'm just reporting results. FYI: All VST the paths are identical in both SPlat and CbB. And I did a full Reset/Rescan (thanks CakeAlexS, LOL).

Well, I have 33 specific, by path, 32bit *only* plugs of which only 6 would not scan in CbB so I'm not sure that is an accurate statement. We have been told there is no CbB 32bit version installer, maybe that is what you recall?

There is only one scanner used by CbB and SONAR but each DAW has its own path settings and VST Inventory in the registry. The most common problems cause a dialog to appear giving an option to enable the plug-in anyway. For commercial plug-ins I always enable and do not recall having any issues. Sometimes the scanner will hang, Zeta+2 does it for me. In that case, i kill the scan, move the plug-in out of the path, run another scan. When I get a completed scan, I add Zeta+2 back. The next scan always picks it up. A couple of tips 1) Do not cause the scanner to work more than necessary. - Avoid duplicate paths. The scanner starts at the paths specified in Preferences and search every folder below them.
- Avoid scanning areas that do not contain VST2/3 plug-ins such as the paths contain DX plug-ins.
- The "Rescan Failed Plug-ins" and "Rescan Existing Plug-ins" options are off by default and in most cases should be left that way.
2) To create a scan log - hold the SHIFT key while clicking the scan button. A toast message should appear advising a log is created. And yes 32bit plug-ins are still supported using BitBridge.

I've down to 5 32bit only plugs not showing up in CbB that show up in Splat. They are all rarely used IK Multimedia VSTi plugs. I now have the 64bit replacement plugs running. Philharmonik SampleMoog SampleTank 2.x SampleTron SonikSynth 2 I only have three projects that still have SampleTank in them. Must take this opportunity to replace them with SampleTank 3 and uninstall those 32bit only version plugs.

Don't those require the host to run as administrator? If so, that needs to be done before scanning to pick up the plug-ins. Check the exclude list.

Probably. I simply swapped out Sample Tank 3 and moved them out of my 32bit only scan path. Probloem solved. My VST counts match now.

My VST scan earlier today did *much* better! Picked up everything that was in SPlat 'cept my beloved 32 bit Philharmonik CE. Tried several tricks but could not get that puppy running. <sigh> Overall, way better! What changed? I dunno!

bapu - I had loads of problems with IK ST2 based instruments not working in Home Studio when I first upgraded from 8LE - even when I ran in administrator mode - so I took advantage of the opportunity to import their libraries into ST3 Free

Getting Waves Shell errors during VST scan since today since the Cakewalk Bandlab update, the errors are in CbB and Splat, same thing in each DAW since automatic update.

I have 200 or so,missing VST’s (compared to Splat) Mostly Melda production. The paths seem ok as they were imported from Splat. Frustrating though having to re-import them one by one into the VST menu. Jerry Edit : i upgraded the Melda vst’s to v11.09. CxB found the vst2 versions but not those that are vst3. Running as Administrator does not help. Also did a reset/rescan, still very few vst3’s showing up. Any ideas ?

I really hope this won't be the case. I use a 64bit version of SPLAT but still run some old 32bit VSTs without problems. It's one of the things I always loved about Sonar; how it allowed you to use lagacy software. I've mentioned here before my love of Trilogy Bass module - I'll get around to updating to the new sparkly 64bit Trilion one day, but, until that day comes, I would like to be able to keep running 32bit VST. This was also one of the points that stopped me from buying into Presonus - their blocking of older VSTs. Can anyone confirm or refute Starise's point?

I would like to see a link in the post instead of "I read somewhere." Cakewalk purchased the source code to BitBridge years ago and BitBriidge is still bundled with CbB. 32bit plug-ins still scan, show up in the browser and may be added to projects. But without updates, 32bit plug-ins are likely to turn from assets to problems. When they fail, not only with they be unusable in future projects, all the existing projects referencing the failed plug-in will become a maintenance opportunity. It is true there is no 32bit version of CbB.

I would have posted a link but I don't recall where I read it. After reading these comments I think I must have misunderstood. I wanted to make sure we could still use 32 bit...which BTW is beginning to go the way of the dinosaur in other daws. This led me to speculate even more. I'm glad to report all of my 32 bit plug ins are loaded and working Sorry for the misinfo....I was asking not telling.

Not without reason. Maybe it is time to take the hint. Still, some feel comfortable upgrading everything but a few plug-ins the manufacturer stopped caring about years ago.

Further to my post above i’ve now got my Melda vst3’s back into the setup.
FWIW i removed the vst3 path, scanned, closed CbB then opened it up again and re-added the path, re-scanned et voila.
Cheers, Jerry
