VST Problem... Sonik Synth
I have loaded up Sonik Synth 2 and it's not showing when I Insert>Softsynths>... I have gone to my VST Plugin folder and placed everything from Sonik Synth in there... Re scanned and still it doesn't show up... when I do scan it shows in the scan window but it's not available for me when I go to Insert in my project... anyone out there have a suggestion? Billy

I'm not familiar with Sonik Synth - is it a VSTi or a DXi? and are you looking in your menu items for a VSTi or DXi?

Thanks for the reply beegs... Here is the product... http://www.soniksynth.com/Main.html?prod_SS I loaded it before into my program files and it showed up in my VST plugin's in Sonar... Unfortunatly the disk was corrupted and I only got some of the sounds... but they worked fine in Sonar... Sonik Synth sent me two new instrument disks and I uninstalled the first version and reinstalled the new one the same way,,, (pretty sure) and now I have all my sounds but it's not showing up in my Sonar>Insert>Softsynths>VST Plugins... I can scan and see it flash through the scan window so I know it's there... but it doesn't show up in a project... Please tell me what other info you need Beegs and I will do my best to explain it. Thanks Billy

If you see it during the scan, Sonar knows it's there. Check sub-menu's in the VST list.

I went to Options>Global>VST Plugins... and didn't see any sub menus'... I'm probably looking in the wrong place... Can you guide me a bit more? I also looked in Steinberg which has my addicted drums .dll file and one other, not Sonik Synth... I ran a search for a .dll file in Sonik Synth and came up empty...

When you click Insert>Softsynths, you should see the dropdown list. Look for Shared VSTs in particular, but any items with an arrow next to them. Hover over these, and sub-menu's should appear. I have found many "missing" synths this way. I'll check mine to see where Sonic Synth shows up.

Hmm. I'm seeing Sonic Synth and Sample Tank at the top, with the DXi's, as well as farther down the list as a VST. It's possible you have a registry issue from the previous installation. I could guess, but it would probably be best to hold out for someone better versed in how to clean that up. Wish I could be more help.

Yes, there should be a .dll. If you drill down to the Sonic Synth folder using Windows Explorer, what do you see?

You mentioned you see Sonik Synth in the scan window. Is this during the actual scan? If you open Plug-in manager, do you see it there? You also mention that you moved everything into the VST folder. Where was it originally installed? I have an idea, but answer these questions first.

Maybe. It looks like the scanner knows it should see something, but it's not finding it. Here's my idea. I have the Free version that 1-K used to distribute, so I am making some assumptions as to what you have, based on normal scenarios. I don't have an uninstall routine, and I am hoping you do, since you installed from a disc. From Start>Programs... select Uninstall, and run it. Check your VST folder after that, to be sure all signs of Sonik Synth have been removed. At this point, I like to restart the computer, but that may not be necessary. Start SHS6, and run the VST scanner. You should see no sign of Sonik Synth. Close SHS6. Now install Sonik Synth from the disc. If it wants to install to a default folder, let it. It may ask to create a Steinberg folder. Let it do that, too. Make very careful notes of what path and folder Sonik Synth installs to. Now open SHS6, and the Plug-in manager. Click Options, and add the folder where Sonik Synth is installed to the list of folders to scan. It doesn't matter where the VST's are, as long as the plug-in manager knows where to find them. Now click Scan VST's. With luck, it will find Sonik Synth, and make it available for use. Fingers crossed, and standing by for hopefully good news.

That is a possibility. Moving files after the install can cause problems, too, and I'm hoping that's the issue here. If you have a registry cleaner that you trust, this would be a good time to run it. The crux of the biscuit is that without that .dll, it's all for naught. Can you install the core program now, and load the samples later? Or does it all have to happen at once?

I'm not familiar with that one, but yes. You may be surprised at just how much stray stuff you have on your computer. The first time I ran a cleaner, it was a real eye opener. Even now it finds stuff, and I try to keep things fairly tidy.

Usually only if the "uninstall" isn't done properly...Some programs are very "finicky" about the way they want to be uninstalled...As much as DAW software developers would like to have you believe that you don't have to know a lot about computers to make a system work, I find that to be a bunch of BS...It's imperative to know the tools you're using (and the computer is one of the tools)...That doesn't mean you have to be a computer tech or know how to troubleshoot programming codes...I do, however, highly recommend that DAW users gain a working knowledge of registry issues and how to comfortably deal with them...

Copy that, Papa. These are remarkably sophisticated machines, yet they are regarded as almost an appliance. This stuff was science fiction when we were kids. I love what we can do now, but it's mind boggling at times to get it to work. Still, I'm glad we have it. Of course, we still have the low tech stuff. There's nothing like wracking your brain for hours, only to notice out of the corner of your eye, that loose cable laying on the floor.
