VST Synths not saving settings, VB3 and Digidrum Pro

In both Sonar 8.5 (32-bit) and Platinum (64-bit) several of my VST Synths repeatedly load with different settings than what should have been saved. Most problematic, VB3 (64-bit) refuses to save any of my changes and loads with the factory settings every time. Also, DigiDrum Pro (32-bit) changes all my drum samples from "Audio File" to "Cowbell" every time I load a file that uses it. I'm not sure if this is a problem with the DigiDrum Pro plugin, Sonar, or maybe the VST settings. As for VB3, it seems that plenty of people have it running fine so I doubt that it is a problem with the VST.
Any thoughts on how to make these work? Especially VB3 since I already bought the full version...

    Try running the 32bit version of VB3. Never could get the 64bit version to work reliably.

    I'm having a similar problem with Izotope Nectar Elements (VST3).  I set up a custom Preset EQ setting and when I reopen it, the default EQ and not the custom shows up.  I have an open ticket with Izotope over this but no response from them.
