VST erratic note doubling
I have an issue with some VSTs not playing their voices "cleanly". One VST I am using at the moment - Cakewalk sound centre - actually and erratically plays the note from my keyboard an ocatve higher than the note I've just played! All the voices in the Cakewalk sound centre behave in the same intermittent way - piano/guitar etc. Velocity changes have no effect, so it's not a velocity related issue and midi ox tells me no "stray" midi data is going into the VST from my keyboard. Anyone else come across this problem? I used the Cakewalk sound centre example because it's a VST I'm currently using, but some - but not all - VSTs behave like this. As an example, Omnisphere does not exhibit this characteristic. Any ideas??

Any MIDI FX in the project? Arp enabled on the track? Can you reproduce it in a new project?

Hi all...sorry for late reply - had a power cut here!! No FX..there was but deleted them all - problem remains. ARP is off. Yes, VST has same problem in a new project. Midi buffer is set to 256mS. Would increasing it help? Don't quite see why though. Running Sonar X3 64 bit - don't know what the E means..

Tremor Midi buffer is set to 256mS. Would increasing it help? Don't quite see why though.
The MIDI Prepare Using Buffer size will not affect live MIDI input, only playback of existing MIDI, and the usual symptom is dropped notes rather than wrong pitch (i.e. wrong note number), but I would recommend increasing it to the old pre-X1 default of 500ms in any case. The new lower default of 250ms is too low for a lot of systems, and can cause playback problems. Beyond that, I can't really say I've ever heard of the symptoms you're describing, and would have guessed a controller or port driver problem if not for MIDI-OX reportedly showing correct messages. Definitely make sure you have the "e" update applied.

Just to reality check this, you are getting a second note played after the first? If so, do you have the arpeggiator engaged for that track?

Hi all and thanks Dr Avalanche for the info on E and VST scan update Have now carried out the rescan. Hasn't made any difference. Brundlefly... the problem is evident on playing the VST - not got as far as playback!! Will try midiox and check the keyboard data, but the problem does not happen when using Omnisphere The effect when using Cakewalk sound centre is to hear (virtually simultaneously) the played with a second note an octave above. Nope no arpegiator on!

W.A.Guess, it could happen when your keyboard is sending doubled notes. Sometimes comb filtering will sound an octave higher. If you record your MIDI, you could check the event list to see if you've got doubled notes. One fix would be to configure your tracks for one specific channel. Another would be to check the keyboard MIDI config for transmit channels.

Kind of just tuned into the fact that it's only Sound Center. I can't reproduce a problem, but SC is 32-bit only. Are you having trouble with any other 32-bit synths. Have you tried reinstalling just Sound Center? Otherwise, I can only think possibly it's a problem with the localized version of Sound "Centre".
