VST2 VST3 Plugin Scan Paths

Hi Good day,
Can anyone tell me what the default/typical plugin scan paths should be set to? (i.e., for up to date Sonar Platinum x64/ Win7 x64)

Cheers

Hi. Default are:
For 64 bit plugins, C:\Program Files\Cakewalk\vstplugins
For 32 bit plugins C:\Program Files (x86)\Cakewalk\vstplugins
For Vst3, C:\Program Files\Common Files\VST3
All the best.

Thanks man, does this include all the Cakewalk core plugins vst's?

That agrees with the help page. It includes all the VST2/3 plug-ins bundled with SONAR except AD2. I am not sure about the AD2 default. I used the XLN installer to put it in default SONAR path.

I would recommend using Preferences (the link provided) to setup the scan path. Whether the 32bit path is necessary depends on whether 32bit SONAR installed before 64bit SONAR. If only 64bit SONAR is installed the 32bit path is not necessary. The help page also shows (incorrectly) the "Rescan" options selected. These should be unchecked. The check boxes are disabled when "Automatic Background Scan" is selected. The "Rescan" options should only be used for special cases and turned off after use.

K thanks if I uninstall Sonar from control panel and reinstall will that resolve 32 bit issues, not sure if I did 32 bit install on this computer. Also thanks for link and check box info, (Im going through hell with Izotope O8N2 install its messing all my plugin scans with errors, even for Ozone 7, Nectar and RX plugins)

If you wish to reinstall SONAR use these instructions. It is easy enough to see if 32bit Platinum is installed. The default path to it is "C:\Program Files (x86)\Cakewalk\SONAR Platinum"

If there are multiple versions of SONAR installed, there is a way to clean all Cakewalk DAWs off the machine too but care must be taken to avoid accidentally removing 3rd party plug-ins in the default scan path.

Before going through a clean install, a VST reset might help. Also some scan errors can be ignored.

Ok thanks, I wasnt sure exactly what the scan reset did, was going to remove all and re-add, some like Melodyne Studio, I seem to need to reference in common files to work as a plugin/region fx  I started to reinstall Izotope stuff for now to try and avoid full cleanup, I dont see Platinum under (x86) programs so guess not installed as 32bit

A VST Reset clears the VST Inventory in the registry and rebuilds it from the current scan path.

Ok lads thanks for all your advice, Ive managed to get things working I beleive as is supposed to without Sonar reinstall, just Ozone 7 & 8 Advanced , and Nuetron 1 & 2 Advanced reinstall, by changing plugin install software paths to custom and changing from  steinberg/vstplugins to cakewalk/vstplugins and removing additional paths I created out of desperation under common files/VST3/.

Thanks
Cheers

Good news. There should be no issue adding paths not already in the scan path but, never add a path if it is a subdirectory of an existing scan path entry. Adding subdirectories of existing scan path entries can cause scanning problems.
