More than 16 midi track support in one instance of virtual instrument. But the instrument must be created like that. For example Vienna Symphonic Library sampler.

We implemented support for multiple input "event buses" in VST3. This is analogous to having a hardware multi-port MIDI interface, For virtual instruments that support this feature you will now see multiple MIDI input buses each addressable by 16 MIDI channels in SONAR's track output port UI. This allows you to address more than 16 instrument voices in the same plugin instance.

See attached screenshot that shows Vienna Ensemble's event buses being used in SONAR. We show an event bus selector on our MIDI tracks output port picker.

Currently the only plugins that make use of this feature are Vienna Ensemble Pro and Steinberg's Groove Agent.

Noel, you answered my question before I even had a chance to ask it.

    Thanks, and well done.

Just to clarify, this would work with the VSL Vienna Ensemble, NOT the sample player, which is not multi timbral.
