VSTi in Cakewalk ProAudio-8

Hello

I need help on how to use VSTi instruments in Cakewalk Pro-Audio-8. I have purchased VSTi adapter and installed it. I can see the plugins in the Audio-Effects menu.

But I do not know how to map the midi tracks to use the plugin which is a DirectX softsynth. Can someone please help me?

Thanks in advance

I'm pretty sure you can not use DXi or VSTi plug-ins on any version of Pro Audio. Sonar and some other more modern Cakewalk products will handle DXi. If the host will do DXi then I think you can use an adapter to run VSTi. If it only does DX plugins then you can use an adapter to do VST.

I find your post to be a bit confusing to me. You claim you are trying to use a DirectX softsynth. What does that have to do with VSTi ?

What is the DirectX softsynth? Is it really a DXi softsynth?

If it's a softsynth then I don't think you can plug it into a Pro Audio track directly. Typically you would run the softsynth as a separate application (not a plugin) and it would appear as an output and could be selected in the PORT field of a midi track.

    Larry.

Thanks for the response. I can see the confusion I have created. Please ignore the terms I have used.

Basically I am trying to use plugins called "SwarPlug" provided by www.SwarSystems.com. I have the Cakewalk VSTi adapter setup and have registered this plugin. Even the manufacturer's website also mentions that with VSTi wrapper, we can use these plugins with Cakewalk, of course they do not specifically mention Pro-8.

A couple of months ago, when I had contacted Cakewalk, they had told me that with VSTi adapter, I will be able to use the plugins.

In Cakewalk Pro-8, when I go to Audio-FX menu I can see SwarPlug as one of the options. That is where I am stuck. I do not know how to route my midi track through this plugin. I have Cakewalk Homestudio-2.0 also, and I am able to route my midi through audio track where this plugin is mapped to. But, comfortzone with Cakewalk pro is making me reluctant to use Homestudio.

Do I understand that there is now way I can use these plugins in Pro-8?

SwarSystems is promoting the Cakewalk VST adapter and they provide a link to the cakewalk site.
Here is a quote from the Cakewalk sit on their VST adapter:

    * Owners of earlier versions of Cakewalk software without DXi support (e.g. Cakewalk Pro Audio 9) can use the Cakewalk VST Adapter to gain access to VST audio effects, but they cannot access VST instruments.

So, I think you are out of luck trying to run a virtual instrument (DXi or VSTi) in Pro Audio 9.

Sonar is often called Pro Audio 10 which points out that Cakewalk totally stopped improving PA9 with things like virtual instrument support in favor of Sonar. They have continued to improve product like Home Studio.

    Cheers,
