V-Studio 700 internal Fantom Synth/ARX not working in second VS-700R

I think/fear I may have found an issue with the V-Studio 700 hardware and the new Sonar Platinum. The internal synth and ARX sounds are not working in my second VS-700R(2) when using Sonar Platinum as they do when using Sonar X3. i.e. there is no audio happening when trying to use the second VS-700R(2) internal synth modules.

I have a V-Studio 700 setup which consists of:
  •  VS-700C (I have one (1) Console)
  •  VS-700R (I have dual (2) Recorders)

Each VS-700R comes with an internal Fantom synth and each recorder has been populated with an ARX sound card, Percussion ARX (in the first VS-700R) and Brass ARX (in the second VS-700R). When using the Sonar Platinum application, the sound modules for the first VS-700R(1) are available for use and work as expected. When calling up the sound modules from the second VS-700R(2), they will launch but there is no audible sound produced when used. I can see MIDI data and sound levels going on within the synth app however, there is no audible sound being produced. I have checked the input/output settings for the VS-700 and these settings in Sonar Platinum are identical to the settings when running Sonar X3 however, when in Sonar X3 I am able to hear/use the sound modules from the second VS-700R(2). Both VS-700R units will record audio through the audio interfaces successfully, however only the first VS-700R(1) will call up and play the internal synth sounds (audio) the second VS-700R(2) will not while in Sonar Platinum.

So, in summery...
Sonar Platinum:
  • VS-700R(1) synth sounds work
  • VS-700R(2) synth sounds DON'T work
Sonar X3:
  • VS-700R(1) synth sounds work
  • VS-700R(2) synth sounds work

I have gone back and forth several times between Sonar X3 and Sonar Platinum checking, double checking, and triple checking various settings. I think I have checked and compared everything I can think of under MIDI Devices, the VS-700 settings, the plugin settings, etc... between Sonar X3 and Sonar Platinum. In Sonar Platinum I recorded a track using the secondary ARX (Brass) module on the VS-700(2) and saved it, then I opened that saved project in Sonar X3 and it played/sounded perfectly on the VS-700R(2). It appears to be an audio routing issue within Sonar Platinum and the secondary VS-700R(2) concerning just the internal synth sounds.

Is there anything else I can check that I am not thinking of or I have discovered a Sonar Platinum bug when using two VS-700R modules? I really hope it is just me and I am missing something, any thoughts/suggestions would be welcomed at this point.

Also... with the re-vamped community threads we are now using, I no longer see a dedicated V-Studio section. I wish they would reconsider and bring back a section dedicated to the V-Studio as it can still be a viable piece of hardware and having the threads consolidated to a dedicated section would help.

It could be related to the registry. I know the Fantom synth had install problems on some Win 64bit systems in Sonar X3 (and previous versions), and it showed similar symptoms: synth appears to load just fine, midi data and sound levels appear to work, but there is no sound. Possibly a variation of that issue is affecting you here.

I actually just installed Sonar Platinum onto my system with V-Studio 700 and Win 7 64, and I initially had no Fantom sound at all: midi and sound meters all moved, but nothing coming out of the speakers. I applied a version of the reg patch, and it fixed the problem and now I have sound. Just a thought, but possibly there is a further registry tweak that can be applied to fix the problem with a second rack unit? It might be worth gingerly wading through Sonar's registry entries to see if anything looks amiss.

Figured I'd throw it out there...
