V-Vocal options greyed out for audio file - SOLVED

Hey All

I'm running X1 PExp X1d Build 535 - x64 and I'm finding that all of my v-vocal options are greyed out when I right click a vocal audio file. I've found one other post where it was recommended to re-install but this is quite a big ask so is there a better way to recover the v-vocal tool?

If the re-install is the only option is the full re-install... from scratch or just X1D?

Thanks for quick reply.
In my original project it was a fresh recording so no groove clip or audio snap applied. 
Have also tried re-scanning VSTs as you suggested but still greyed v-vocal out.

To make sure it's not project specific I've copied the audio clip to a new Normal template and I'm getting the same issue.

Does V-vocal work on other totally different projects? I had a project where I highlighted a vocal clip, clicked on V-Vocal and it immediately auto-corrected the entire clip. Then I could not eliminate the corrected clip no matter what I did. I reloaded the project backup file and the identical thing happened; thus in your case copying the audio clip may have also copied the problem. However V-Vocal worked fine on other projects. My only way out was to have the singer re-record the song. To this day I have no idea what happened and I have not been able to recreate the problem.

I have this happen on occasions, a reinstall fixed it for me, pain in the ass but it fixed it, until the next time it happens!

Let me understand this better: you have an audio track with a vocal and when you select the entire track or a section of the track, you right click and Select V-Vocal and Create V-Vocal Clip is grayed out and not available to click?

That's very strange. This may be a real shot in the dark but are you running X1 "as an administrator"? I saw some bizarre behaviour after one of the earlier updates and that was caused by that being unchecked somehow.

Right click on the Sonar program/shortcut icon. Select Properties--->Compatibility and you'll see it under "Privilege level". Worth a look anyway. Other than that I am lost, might be a case for support.

Yes Admin was unchecked. So I checked it and still the same result.


Interestingly enough I have the same install on a back up laptop and v-vocal is working OK. The only difference being that I haven't got round to installing the Softube bundle, which I bought recently, on that back up machine.
At least I can use that machine to do the v-vocal edits :) - I check this and it works for the original project.
Maybe your right that a call to support is necessary for my main system.


Just to check. You mentioned a VST scan earlier... does v-vocal show in any of the registered plugins? or is this just a magic fix used before? (I can't see it even on the back up laptop).


Any clues as to where the v-vocal function resides in the files and folder structure and how Sonar calls it so I can check if it's missing or if my registry cleaner has perhaps removed any links?

cronus.dll is part of V-Vocal but it is not a VST.

Rather it operates under DX architecture as far as I know so a scan or re-scan won't affect it.

Check that it exists in the Cakewalk/Shared DXi/VVocal  folder

There should be 3 dll's as well as a Skins folder

Was it working before updating to X1D?

If you hold the Shift key while starting SONAR it will offer you the option to re-run "Personalize". Try that.

It would be useful to other users if you append the word SOLVED to your thread title with maybe a comment in the first post in a different color stating that a reinstall action actually did solve your problem.

I reinstalled yesterday on my laptop[no metronome in 64bit],if your using the discs from the box,just reinstall,but don't run[it will ask for the reg code,and mine refused ALL of them],so then I applied the X1C update,then the Expanded update,and used the reg code for Expanded-all cool then.

Then it was just install X1D,then the modules[didn't have to re-authorise]and all the other plugs/drum soft's,and luckily most of my third party VST's were in a folder untouched,so they just hooked up again.

I still can't get Amplitube to show in 64[I know it's 32,but I had it running in 64 before,both of them-can't remember]

Then the 82 pro channel presets,that I had on CDR's,like some other stuff[perfect space impulses]Z3TA-2,Dimension Pro.

I didn't bother with beatscape[never found a use for it]and didn't reinstall BFD2[I don't like it much,wish I never bought it...could REALLY use the $150 NOW!]

It took a few hours ALL up,but it fixed the metronome,and everything scans and loads quite a bit faster than before,   Good Luck

Well I caved in the end and re-installed. Before re-installing, I did find some registry differences between the main and back up laptop for the cronus.dll but altering the main registry did not fix it. The re-install did indeed resolve the issue should anyone else have this issue and read this thread. Just hoping now it never comes back!


My Re-install followed the path below (all plugins and settings :-


Uninstall of Sonar X1 Producer using Windows/Control Panel/Programs and Feature/Uninstall


Then Install:-
Original X1 parts 1 & 2 (184)
X1a (197)
X1b (242)
X1c (319)
X1Expanded (425)
X1d (535)


Thanks All for your support on this issue - it sure was a strange one but I'm now happily v-vocaling on my main machine again.
I didn't bother with a support call to Cakewalk in the end.

For future reference, all you needed to install was:

Expanded
X1d
